GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Logline Leaked? (Probably Not.)

by     Posted 1 year, 244 days ago

While we now have the release schedule for Marvel’s second wave of films, we might just happen to have an early logline for what may be their most ambitious project, Guardians of the Galaxy.  Get your heaping spoon of salt ready to take with this news because screenwriter Chris McCoy was just hired a short time ago, with a previous draft turned in by Nicole Perlman.  What we know for a certainty at this point is that the film will include Drax the Destroyer, Groot, StarLord, Rocket Raccoon and Gamora, and that the film will release on August 1st, 2014.  Hit the jump for the (possible) logline and more on Guardians of the Galaxy.

If this turns out to be total bullcrap, direct all of your vitriol over to the source at The Grid (and if it’s true, well, you can thank us for sharing it with you).  Here’s the logline:

About a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants.

Not much to it, eh?  Sounds like a combination of Green Lantern and Con-Air.  I’m not too familiar with the Guardians of the Galaxy storylines, but maybe this is on target?  The only part of this that makes sense to me is the inclusion of a U.S. pilot (ie human) for audiences to have as an anchor.  I still think the following cast of characters is going to be a tough, but not impossible, sell for mainstream audiences:

guardians-of-the-galaxy-rocket-raccoonDrax The Destroyer, a human resurrected as a green warrior with the sole purpose of killing Thanos (the villain in the Avengers final scene tease); Groot, a giant tree-man; Star-Lord, a gun-toting half-human/half-alien inter-galactic vigilante; Rocket Raccoon, a genetically engineered animal with a knack for guns and explosives; and Gamora, the last survivor of her species who was saved by Thanos to be his assassin but now battles him.

Keep an eye on this one as it develops and we’ll update accordingly.

Yeah, that sounds completely false. Especially since they just brought on a couple people to do some rewrites.

rewrites normally mean fluidity and dialogue. at this point characters and over all story line is never effected but little scenes here there are deleted and re written. A re-Write does not mean the whole THING is being scrapped.

That logline sounds suspiciously like the description of FARSCAPE…

Really? Rocket Raccoon? What are these, 3rd. string Avengers? Count me out.

this just might might end up being worse than the Ghost Riders and worse than Daredevil. its cool though Marvel has made so many good movies, they have the right to make a bad one too. All i have to say to everyone that thinks this will be good is come on man Green Lantern didnt work and this movie sounds much much dumber.

LOL I’m pretty sure thats the premise for Farscape……Yea this is definitely fake.

It sounds like Farscape, but Farscape was basically Flash Gordon. If you tried to boil GOTG into a logline, it would sound like the logline in this article. The US pilot is a bit different (I think). It’s understandable that Starlord would be the audience’s intro to the GOTG universe, since he’s the only human (albeit half-human) character (other than Vance Astro or Moondragon who are not in the movie). Making the GOTG into criminals is a bit too close to Farscape, though. I love Farscape, but I hope this doesn’t get too close to that property story-wise.

I’m still excited for the film, though. Lots of potential.

So Gamora is definitely going to be in it? That’s all the reason I need to watch this.

I know nothing about GOTG, but how will they explain the raccoon? He’s sure to be a hit with the kids, but a talking raccoon (I assume he talks) is a bit much to explain. And will the other movie characters actually CALL him by that name?

    “Rocket Raccoon! Over here!”

    “Rocket Raccoon! Blast those aliens!”

“Rocket Raccoon! Pry the lid off this trash can with your opposable thumb!”

A hit with the kids? Go on any update for GotG and you’ll see 99% of the posters saying something along the lines of “can’t wait to see Rocket Raccoon”! It’s honestly like the other characters don’t exist, he was made famous to the general public in Ultimate: Marvel vs Capcom 3 so lots of people are more familiar with him then any of the other members. And if I didn’t know who Spider-Man was I would think that name is ridiculous, as you think Rocket Raccoon is strange for that same reason, and I’m sure they’ll just call him Rocket or something along those lines. He comes from palace where animals were altered with human-like intelligence and such, which really isn’t that hard to pitch and I imagine they’ll only briefly mention his origin.
