Marvel kicked off a week of character posters for director James Gunn’s sci-fi adventure Guardians of the Galaxy yesterday with a new look at the animated characters Rocket Raccoon and Groot, and today the campaign continues with Gamora.  Zoe Saldana plays the novel-looking alien in the pic, a trained assassin who also happens to be the last of her species.  Saldana’s Gamora also provides a strong link to the baddie Thanos (played by Josh Brolin), as she just so happens to have a personal connection to the big purple guy.  Saldana looks heavily touched-up on this character poster, and I’m not quite sure if it’s an artistic flourish or just bad photoshop.

Reilly, Peter Serafinowicz, and the voices of Bradley Cooper and Vin DieselGuardians of the Galaxy opens in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on August 1st.
