Marvel kicked off a week of character posters for director James Gunn’s sci-fi adventure Guardians of the Galaxy yesterday with a new look at the animated characters Rocket Raccoon and Groot, and today the campaign continues with Gamora.  Zoe Saldana plays the novel-looking alien in the pic, a trained assassin who also happens to be the last of her species.  Saldana’s Gamora also provides a strong link to the baddie Thanos (played by Josh Brolin), as she just so happens to have a personal connection to the big purple guy.  Saldana looks heavily touched-up on this character poster, and I’m not quite sure if it’s an artistic flourish or just bad photoshop.

Hit the jump to check out the new Guardians of the Galaxy poster.  The film also stars Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, Glenn Close, Benicio Del Toro, Djimon Hounsou, Michael Rooker, John C. Reilly, Peter Serafinowicz, and the voices of Bradley Cooper and Vin DieselGuardians of the Galaxy opens in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on August 1st.

Here’s the official synopsis for Guardians of the Galaxy:

From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team – the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits – Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand – with the galaxy’s fate in the balance. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” is presented by Marvel Studios. The film releases August 1, 2014, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Saldana is unattractive to begin with, that’s why she’s always covered in make-up and you can’t see her face.

While your taste in women is purely subjective, you are so wrong about Zoe Saldana being unattractive.

It’s probably because youre white and only like white woman.

      • k

Haha, completely wrong but keep believing that black man.

  • Strong Enough

Marvel has never been good with posters

  • The Flobbit

That is seriously the cheesiest, corniest TV-anchor smirk I’ve seen this week. I expect something like that on Ron Burgundy or Brian Fantana.

If you need an actress to be Green, Blue, Orange or Red, call Zoe.

  • Isak

All she needs now is a red character and a yellow character and she’ll have covered all four primary colors.
