From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team – the Guardians of the Galaxy.  An action-packed epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the universe.  To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits – Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer.  But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand – with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.  Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” is presented by Marvel Studios. The film releases August 1, 2014, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Around The Web

    aaand here come the haters

looks great imo hoping this means that a full trailer or at least a poster is coming soon

      • Leo Spaceman

I hope the trailer is released with the Superbowl. Everybody is expecting Transformers and some money shot as ridiculously stupid awesome as Optimus Prime Riding a T-Ranosoaraus Rex into Battle but this trailer will hopefully come along unannounced and make 150 Million Plus people’s jaws drop at the sheer visually orgasmic greatness of what will hopefully be the movie of the summer.

      • eternalozzie

I don’t care how bad the Transformer movies are … I still love them

      • Leo Spaceman

I love the Transformers movies as well. I love them so much that I have seen them all at least five times. But I will say after seeing the movies 5 times, you can see how terrible a director Bay really is in terms of making a coherent movie. The movies work because you sit down and shut up and let the stupidity bashes your senses into submission and you except the stupidity.

      • Spanky

It took you 5 times to see that? Good lord man..

    • Chachi Medrano

i must be late! i had no idea bautista was in it!

      • MEY

Are they joking? First I thought the new picture shows action figures!

  • Nate B.

Looks exactly how it should, looking forward to this one quite a bit, hoping for some Nova action in there too.

  • mattinacan

looks like just the right amount of crazy

  • Yurine

    rocket Racoon!

    • axalon

  • Grayden

Uhura got the Orion slave girl treatment. Doesn’t look like they deviated from that concept art by very much. Kinda hope Quill gets the long coat though. Long coats are just more badass.

  • Mars

    Neytiri let her hair down.

  • Dave

man, special effects are nuts now. bradley cooper is barely recognizable as rocket racoon

    • george

lol I kinda wish they stuck with the long red trenchcoat look for Starlord, that looked badass! Other than that, can’t wait to finally see a trailer!

      • Lance

Yeah, whoever thought the short coat was better was nuts. Now he looks like a guy in the concession line at a ballpark.

  • Murdoch

The only person who looks like the actor that plays them is Chris Pratt, and is therefore looking REALLY out of place in the lineup.

    • Norrtron

Well he’s the only human while the rest are aliens, so yeah, of course he looks out of place.

      • Werefon

      • Murdoch

I mean it looks like the guy from Parks & Rec walked in while they were shooting Guardians of the Galaxy and the director said “Fuck it, i ain’t shooting that scene again”

    • Lex Walker

That was the opposite of the problem I had with Lincoln. Daniel Day-Lewis looked so much like Lincoln that it looked like they resurrected him and then cast a bunch of recognizable actors around him. I think I prefer it with one recognizable guy and then a bunch of actors so disguised they’re unrecognizable.

  • Alexandre Ostan

    The concept is better. Oh,oh!

    • sabretruthtiger

      Ummmm, no.

  • AdeoAdversary

Did they pass an intergalactic space law that Zoe Saldana has to be in every sci-fi franchise now???

    • sabretruthtiger

      She’s hot, who cares?

      • pk

  • Atlasshruggedmyass

i think this movie is gonna flop hard! I just dont see it
being a big hit. Marvel has this cost saving strategy
of intentionally hiring sub-par, mediocre, B-Picture Directors
for there films just to save money. But for films this risky they
probably should have chosen someoene better.

    • Harrison Foreman

The latest generation knew little-to-nothing about Robert Downey or Iron Man prior to their respective films, and those who did ventured little past “has-been actor” and “average Avenger.” By your principle, Marvel should have hired some A-List George Clooney to portray Tony Stark. Glad you don’t work for Marvel Studios.

  • Steven

I can safely admit I still don’t know what “Guardians of the Galaxy” is.

    • BigJimSlade

The comic is a mess. I’d be VERY surprised if many of the people excited about this thing have read it…

      • Christopher Harper

Which volume are you talking about? I’m excited because of the Dan Abnett run this is based off of. Not liking the Bendis run so far, but it could be worse.

      • Nerdgasm

Bigjimslade is an IDIOT! I bet he hasn’t actually read a full comic or arc of a story from GOTG. And Harper you are correct. Abnett did the best work with these characters in my opinion. The issue I have with anything that Bendis does is it seems he makes this nicely paced story line with everything connecting nicely and then he basically summarizes his own nicely paced draft into a fast moving story with action and quick character development that makes no sense.

      • Christopher Harper

The best thing about the current series is Sara Pichelli’s brilliant art, which is simply brilliant.

And that bit where Gamora proves to be too much for Tony Stark. That was hilarious.

    • Pedro

Ditto. Why is there so much hype surrounding this becoming a film? Does anyone really care that much or are we being force another attempt at a comics franchise?

  • 80sRobot

I hope Howard the Duck cameos somewhere in this.

Trivia: Howard the Duck premiered on August 1, 1986. It flopped. Guardians of the Galaxy premieres next year… on August 1.

  • http://whiterosebrian.tumblr.com/ White Rose Brian

Who else was introduced to Rocket Raccoon through Marvel vs Capcom? Who else is looking forward to seeing him in the movie theater?

  • sense11

Green, Blue, Tan, it doesn’t matter Zoe looks hot in any color

  • The Flobbit

Hugely psyched for this movie, but Zoe’s skin color looks like something out of one of those old Star Trek shows, Chris Pratt looks really dumpy, but Rocket Raccoon should work, Drax the Destroyer looks badass, and Groot looks AMAZING.

    • Nerdgasm

Number one you must not have seen Pratt when he was showing off how in shape he got for the role. It’s just the clothes he’s wearing but he’s a jackass, lazy scum relic hunter that steals shit to get paid. He shouldn’t look impressive or anything beyond dumpy so he fits the bill.

      • The Flobbit

Not passing judgement, just stating facts. He looks dumpy.

      • pk

yeah hes very ordinary looking compared to Robert downey jr,Chris hemsworth and Chris Evans. but then again so are mark ruffallo and jeremy renner…

      • The Flobbit

Does he have any charisma or charm to speak of? As I have not seen any of his work, I am not qualified to judge…

      • pk

well everybody seemed to be impressed with his work in zero dark thirty and bunch of other small supporting roles he had in big movies. plus he has a pretty big fan base for parks and recreation. even bradley cooper praised his performance in this movie so must be really good. to top that of, he seems to be a top candidate for the lead role in Jurassic world..

      • The Flobbit

OK, I guess he’s decent. I hope he can deliver. I won’t watch any of his stuff so that he can surprise me in theatres.

After watching this I def think this will be the next Scott Pilgrim. Everyone’s reaction to the teaser of Benicio Del Toro in Thor wasn’t “This looks interesting. Can’t wait to see what it leads to.” It was “What the Fuck was that all about? And why does it look so weird and out of place in a Marvel movie?”

      • LEM

The fact that it was an afterthought and done separately from the movie did them no favors.

      • LEM

The fact that it was an afterthought and done separately from the movie did them no favors.

  • MacGuffin

Have you not heard the trailers theme song? Its the same “oogaChaka” garbage a baby danced to in Ally McFuckingBeal… I smell a flop…Pacific Rim Style. “hooked On a Feelin” spell suck> Please let me be wrong!

    • LEM

It was used in “Reservoir Dogs” too so your argument is invalid.

      • MacGuffin

The song still sucks and has no place in a sci-fi movie.

      • pk

yeah ditto here. i felt the song was out of place and made the movie to look like some action comedy flick. i wish they went with a classic rock song like how iron man had ac/dc and black sabbath

      • pk

haha you are comparing reservoir dogs to a comic book movie? your argument is invalid my friend…

      • LEM

Oh poor simple minded pk. The comparison is HOW the music is used not what genre uses it.

      • pk

still feels out of place. heres hoping they go for a better choice for the next trailer

      • LEM

They might since this was just a comic con teaser to help build early hype.

  • lordjim

wow, this looks damned great!and now i need an unrated lobo movie.

  • http://tarek-to-verso.over-blog.com/ tarek

Is it me or they look like a 3d animation ?

  • http://www.collider.com/ DNAsplitter

2014′s Scott Pilgrim. Only the die hard fan boys will know who this is and because of its bizarre nature I don’t see a lot of others outside people attending as it won’t hold their attention – even if they connect it to the Avengers in their marketing. It’s great that Marvel went risky but I really think the risk would have been better tested 1st w Ant Man before GOTG especially since James Gunn’s direction is very polarizing in it’s bizarre nature (Super was interesting but very weird and depressing).

    • Frank

I don’t know if it was risk as much as necessity. With the massive library of characters Marvel has, there are only some that seem to translate to movies. The progression into the galaxy-oriented stuff seems like the natural way to go, as far as expansion, otherwise they just become a sequel house and continue with formulaic origin stories of singular heroes. That’s a tough mold to break, but the guys and girls at Marvel Studios are smart and know they have to expand. The next phase after the galaxy stuff will be a segue into the magic world via Dr Strange and there’s a whole new cool world there as well. It’s definitely interesting to watch this unfold. I just hope that the technology can catch up to our expectations. I’ve seen some photo real CG that just isn’t implemented yet and I hope we get there sooner than later, because nothing kills a movie faster for me. Bad makeup too, it’s the worst. I really dislike seeing makeup that just doesn’t get there visually. I did enjoy Scott Pilgrim by the way, because the intent of that film came across so clearly.

      • http://www.collider.com/ DNAsplitter

Yea I’m saying this as a big fan of Scott Pilgrim. I also loved Dredd (purhcased the blu ray for me and a friend to show my financial support in hopes of a sequel) and it too suffered the same fate of being to polarizing to mainstream audiences, even w it’s critical praise, people still didn’t see it (probably from the terrible marketing as it looked like an ugly shoot em up film w cheap effects). I get that Marvel wants to push their agenda for a “galactic feel” for their upcoming Phase 3 but there are other routes they could have taken before getting to GOTG. My problem is that I don’t want to see them fail in the middle of Phase 2 because of their agenda when there are plenty of other characters who are more recognized (Dr. Strange, Ant Man, Black Panther, even the other reverted characters of Ghost Rider, Daredevil and the Punisher) who could have been used. I was honestly more suprised that the Hulk didn’t even get a sequel lit after the Avengers before this did. It’s a ballsy move that I hope pays off but my thoughts are that it will end up as the same fate as Scott Pilgrim.

      • Convoy

Well Dredd suffered from no promotion. I work in NYC, and I only saw posters here and there for the movie. Pacific Rim, which was horrible, had more promotion. Scott Pilgrim, while good, wasn’t great, and also didn’t have a whole lot of promotion. Guardians of the Galaxy is a Disney/Marvel film. There is no way that they aren’t going to be pushing this hard from the Super Bowl all the way to the release. After that, it really boils down to is the movie any good or not.

      • http://www.collider.com/ DNAsplitter

I feel that Scott Pilgrim was marketed fine but people just didn’t respond because most mainstream audiences find things of those nature too bizarre and weird. Even w the Mouse House doing their advertising it doesn’t always translate into success – ei John Carter and Lone Ranger. I see the box office similiar to John Carter as they will both be space operas but the budget will be smaller so it won’t be considered a flop or one of that size.

      • Convoy

Lone Ranger was trash. I enjoyed Revenge of the Fallen more than Lone Ranger. John Carter was average. It was good, but not great. Both movies deserved their box office fates. Scott Pilgrim, while fun and exciting, was not great. It’s characters weren’t great. The main character was a bit of a dick. Ramona was boring and had no personality, and he played out Knives, who was full of energy, in order to date Ramona. It was a fun movie, but it wasn’t great, and being too bizarre and weird aren’t why it didn’t do better at the box office. It should have been a TV series. It was one of those movies that you see once, and you’re done. Look at Pirates of the Caribbean. It was a movie based off of a Disney theme park animatronics ride. It was a hit because of it’s story and it’s characters. That’s what matters, and if Guardians of the Galaxy can be as interesting, and has a really good buzz going into premier, it will be a hit.

      • Frank

It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. It’s a cooler property than John Carter, though I was a big fan of the book Princess of Mars and of course, Frazetta’s art. It just didn’t feel current enough, and that’s where I think GOTG is different. Same thing with Lone Ranger. It’s hard to find the relevance for young movie goers. I hope they succeed, but the marvel movies have been hit or miss. The original Iron Man is the one that stands out to me as a good, not just successful, movie. Marvel’s movies definitely aren’t elevated, but as far as appealing to the target audience, the numbers are there and so, I’d deem them successful. GOTG will be a true test of how strong the Marvel brand will be. Interesting for sure.

Seems like an odd choice to release for a first image, especially since it’s so similar to the previous concept image (and invites direct comparison). I guess it’s nice to get a good look at all four but they couldn’t come up with anything better than standing around looking bored? And this is coming from someone excited about the movie.
