With yesterday’s poster unveiling and today’s trailer debut, Fox is officially riding the crest of promotional wave number one for this December's Gulliver's Travels.  Loosely based on the Jonathan Swift satire, the film sends travel writer Lemuel Gulliver to the island of Liliput, where he towers over the tiny citizens.  Jack Black stars as the titular relative giant with a supporting cast of Emily Blunt, Jason Segel, Amanda Peet, and Chris O’Dowd.  Rob Letterman (Monsters vs. Aliens) directs from a script by Joe Stillman (Shrek 2) and Nicholas Stoller (Get Him to the Greek).

The trailer did provoke me to look up Black’s age: turns out he’s 40.  Hmm.  To be fair, the elements I'm most looking forward to (Emily Blunt, Jason Segel) didn't get much screentime, so I definitely want to see a second trailer before passing too much judgement.  Pass your own judgement on the clip after the jump.

Here’s the official synopsis:

In a contemporary re–imagining of the classic tale, Jack Black stars as Gulliver, a big–talking mailroom clerk who, after he’s mistakenly assigned a travel piece on the Bermuda Triangle, suddenly finds himself a giant among men when he washes ashore on the hidden island of Lilliput, home to a population of very tiny people. At first enslaved by the diminutive and industrious Liliputians, and later declared their hero, Gulliver comes to learn that it’s how big you are on the inside that counts.
