There are two things you don’t hear us say very often on this site: one of them is “Haley Joel Osment” and the other is “Sassy Pants.” Tonight marks the exceedingly rare moment where we’ll say both of those things in one sentence, as in, we have a new trailer for you from the comedy Sassy Pants starring Haley Joel Osment. The film, by debut feature director Coley Sohn, stars Ashley Rickards (Awkward) as a teenage girl who attempts to get a job before going away to college. Complicating her plans of escape are an overbearing mom (Anna Gunn of Breaking Bad) and her gay father, played by Diedrich Bader (Napoleon Dynamite). The aforementioned Osment plays Chip Hardy, the father’s boyfriend. Hit the jump to watch the trailer and see Osment like you’ve never seen him before (and probably never wanted to). Thanks to THR for bringing this quirky trailer to our attention. This is definitely a departure for the former child actor who made his claim to fame with such films as The Sixth Sense, A.I. Artificial Intelligence and Pay It Forward. Other than a long run in voice acting for the “Kingdom Hearts” video game series, Osment has been relatively quiet. Besides Sassy Pants and the oddly titled Montana Amazon, Osment can next be seen in a modern day retelling of the Frankenstein mythology in Wake the Dead. In it, Osment plays college student Victor Franklin who experiments with raising the dead. For now, you’ll just have to make due with the following trailer for Sassy Pants:Official synopsis:

Bethany Pruitt (Ashley Rickards) is valedictorian of her class - her one student homeschool class. Stuck with younger brother Shayne (Martin Spanjers) under their perky but oppressive mother June's (Anna Gunn) thumb, Bethany's only escape is a teen fashion 'zine courtesy of her absentee gay dad.

Life at dad Dale's (Diedrich Bader) mobile home is no picnic either. Despite the close bond she forms with his fun, younger boyfriend, Chip (Haley Joel Osment) Dad's self-loathing, alcoholic outbursts weigh heavy on Bethany. She finds solace selling cloathes at a cheap, trendy retail chain, Jail Bait, but her petty, cutthroat coworkers cause a new set of "real world" navigation problems.

When Bethany learns about Fashion Art Technology Institute, aka F.A.T.I., she sees a chance to break free once and for all and forge her own brighter future. How she gets there will redefine her and her family and maybe even update her wardrobe.
