Before Lin-Manuel Miranda vacated the Broadway role of Alexander Hamilton in the Tony-winning Hamilton, the creator promised to film the musical with the original cast. While we’re still waiting for that release, PBS is getting ready to premiere Hamilton’s America, a TV special documentary that goes behind-the-scenes of the acclaimed stage production — and the first trailer has just arrived.

As shown in the preview, Hamilton’s America tells the story of one of the most celebrated musicals of the modern age through footage of performances and various interviews, including with Miranda, President Barack Obama, Nas, Questlove, renowned musical composer Stephen Sondheim, George W. Bush, and Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon.

The documentary is part of PBS’ Great Performances series, which showcases a range of performing arts specials. Watch the 30-second trailer, which more than suggests Miranda is the new Shakespeare.

During the 2016 Tony Awards ceremony, Hamilton took home a total of 11 statuettes, including ones for Best Musical, Leading Actor in a Musical (to Leslie Odom Jr. as Aaron Burr), Featured Actress in a Musical (for Renee Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schulyer), and Best Score. If it had won 12, it would’ve tied The Producers’ record for the most Tony wins in one night. But Hamilton did break the record for the most Tony nominations (16).

Since then, the cast has shifted a bit and Miranda has thrown himself into movie work. Reinforcing his relationship with Disney, he contributed music to Moana and will compose for the upcoming live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid. He’ll also portray Jack, a Bert-esque character, in Mary Poppins Returns opposite Emily Blunt as the titular nanny with a bag of tricks.

Until then, Hamilton’s America will debut on PBS this October 21st at 9 p.m. Here’s the official description:

This feature film documentary provides intimate access to Lin-Manuel Miranda and his colleagues during the two years leading up to the Broadway opening of the musical Hamilton. Lin-Manuel Miranda’s revolutionary musical is based on the life of United States Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. Hamilton’s America is produced by Academy Award and Emmy-winning producers RadicalMedia (What Happened Miss Simone?, Keith Richards: Under The Influence, In the Heights: Chasing Broadway Dreams for PBS). The documentary combines interviews with experts and prominent personalities, new footage of the production in New York, and cast-led expeditions to DC, Philadelphia and New York.
