Warner Bros. has announced release dates for The Hangover Part III and 300: Battle of Artemisia, and rescheduled Pacific Rim.  Here’s the line-up:

  • Todd PhillipsThe Hangover Part III, starring Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Zach Galifianakis, is set for May 24, 2013
  • Noam Murro‘s 300 sequel, 300: Battle of Artemisia opens August 2, 2013
  • Guillermo del Toro‘s monster movie Pacific Rim has been moved from May 10, 2013 to July 12, 2013.  The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Willem Dafoe.

Hit the jump for more on each of these films and what they’ll be facing on their opening weekends.

the-hangover-part-3-posterDetails are scant on The Hangover Part III.  The film will reportedly break from the “forgotten-debauchery” formula of the first two movies.  In December, Cooper said the story takes place in Los Angeles, and the plot has been rumored to involve Alan escaping from a mental hospital.

The Hangover Part II dominated the Memorial Day weekend last year, and Warner Bros. hopes they can do the same in 2013.  However, they’ll be facing stiff competition from Fast & Furious 6.  The animated Fox film Leafman is also in the mix as a bit of counter-programming.

300: Battle of Artemisia takes place during the same time as 300, and will feature younger soldiers played by Sullivan Stapleton and Jamie Blackley.  In a recent interview with Rodrigo Santoro, the actor said he’s in talks to reprise his role as Xerxes, and that the last draft he read included naval battles.

300: Battle of Artemisia will square off against Red 2 and The Smurfs 2 at the box office.

Finally, it looks like we’ll have to wait a little longer for Guillermo del Toro’s next movie.   The film centers on an epic battle between humans (aided by human-manned robots) and attacking monsters.  Del Toro says Pacific Rim will feature “The finest fucking monsters ever committed to screen.”  Knowing Del Toro, that’s not braggadocio.  He has the talent to do it.

On its new July 12, 2013 date, Del Toro will battle Grown Ups 2 on opening weekend.  If you’re rooting for Grown Ups 2, please leave this planet now.  via Box Office Mojo
