Craig Mazin to Write THE HANGOVER PART III

     May 31, 2011

The Hangover Part II co-writer Craig Mazin has been hired to write the script for The Hangover Part III.  Warner Bros. is wasting no time in moving forward on a sequel to the box-office record-breaker and I’m honestly a little surprised that they hadn’t already started moving on a new film when the Hangover 2 was tracking through the roof.  Mazin, whose previous credits include Scary Movie 3 and 4, co-wrote The Hangover Part II with director Todd Phillips and screenwriter Scot Armstrong (Semi-Pro), although “wrote” may not be the best way to describe it.  I’m not sure if copy-pasting the script from the first film and making minor changes counts as “writing”.

When Steve spoke with Phillips during the press junket for Hangover Part II, Phillips said that Part III would be the finale to the series but would be a new template and a new idea.  Hit the jump for his full quote.  [The Tracking Board via The Wrap]

Here’s Phillips’ full quote regarding The Hangover Part III:

If we were to do a third one, and quite honestly we really haven’t talked about it as we just finished the movie two weeks ago, this is the first time we’ve all been together in awhile. If we were to do a third one, if the audience…if the desire was there…I think we have a clear idea where that would head and it’s certainly not in the same template you’ve seen these movies and obviously we always envisioned it as a trilogy as you can imagine (lot’s of laughter), the third would very much a finale and an ending. The most I could say about it and I haven’t discussed it with these actors is that it is not following that template but very much a new idea.  As far as where it takes place…I’m very open like the Olympic committee to being pitched and presented cities…flown around with wine and women and bribed and then I will make my decision.

i’d really like to see part three and i’d really love if phillips make it a whole new thing. i laughed my ass off with part II anyway.

part 2 was terrible – identical to the first – except with some more disturbing disgusting new images…. The character doug was barely even in this film!! he should have been included this time!

wont be bothering with a 3rd…

No, Justin Bartha just isn’t that funny of an actor. He’s just a more mellow straight man to Helms’ meltdown-per-minute and Galifianakis’s fool. He wouldn’t help the dynamic any.

        Amen to Jesus.

They need to bring back Jon Lucas and Scott Moore., the script for the first film was infinitely funnier.

So yeah…I’m pretty sure I’m not alone when I offer up my opinion here…but I was severely let down by The Hangover Part II. Did not find it any funnier than the first, and caught myself periodically while watching the second, thinking…”wow..I haven’t laughed out loud yet during this movie…& I’m already an hour into it.” Sure, it had its funny moments, but nothing at all in the movie quite grabbed me like the humor and comedy found in the first.

Wow, what movie were you guys watching? I honestly though HII was way more funnier than HI.

OMG, why have Warner Bros ruined a great thing? The Hangover is just a great comedy, why did they spoil it with a predictable and meaner sequel? I’m not holding out hope for part III (but get Dan Finnerty and his band again and lose Mike Tyson, who proves that he can overstay his welcome!) Reassuringly, I’ve heard Bridesmaids is a lot more funnier, but I can thank Judd Apatow for that :-)

ONE: Bridesmaids was much MUCH more funnier, relatable and real than Hangover and Part II put together. I really don’t understand what’s so hilarious about The Hangover series.
And unfortunately if they do form a new format the film will still be redundant
TWO: I have to admit that Part II was wonderfully made ill give that to talented director Todd Philips. But we’ll c how it turns out. Hopefully it won’t be so much of a homage to the first film.

Do you think that they will go for a Hangover IV after that ? ^^

The first one was hilarious. I don’t know If I’m even gonna bother myself seeing the second one since it received negative reactions:P
I guess another straight on hit for these guys is just too good to be true.
