With Road Trip, Old School, and Starsky and Hutch under his belt, the directorial efforts of Todd Phillips have been pretty dependable at the box office throughout the last decade. But when his The Hangover made $467 million worldwide on a modest $35, Phillips found himself in very high demand.
Phillips reunited with Zach Galifianakis (plus Robert Downey, Jr. and Jamie Foxx!) for the upcoming November comedy Due Date, and will re-reunite with the Greek comedian for the Hangover sequel. Today, Deadline tells the tale of a mysterious raunchy comedy that Phillips will “godfather” with a $12 million budget and an enigmatic working title: Project X. Hit the jump for details on the cool approach Warner Bros. and producers Phillips and Joel Silver are employing to keep the budget so low.
Details are scant, as the studio is keeping both the plot and the real title tightly under wraps. Nima Nourizadeh will make his feature debut after a career directing commercials and music videos, and the film reportedly centers on an “outrageous high concept”. The creative parties are seeking a college-aged cast comprised of complete unknowns–in other words, if your resume is long enough to warrant an IMDB page, you are probably overqualified. This is great news for the unjaded, as the filmmakers will soon conduct a nationwide search for those who are both funny and unrecognizable.
Below, you can check out a couple of music videos from Nourizadeh that may hint at his comedic chops: “Ladies of the World” by Flight of the Conchords and Hot Chip’s “Over and Over”.

emmm… cast the college humor gang please!
Between this and Nolan's involvement with Superman, it would seem “godfather” is a new position on Warner Bros. staff.
