Zachary Quinto is picking up yet another TV project (he's recently had stints on Girls, American Horror Story, the excellent director competition series The Chair, and stars on NBC's The Slap). According to EW, Quinto will be in at least one episode of Hannibal's upcoming third season (so … I think we can assume he's going to be killed off fairly quickly) as a patient of Bedelia's (Gillian Anderson).

His involvement with Hannibal also means a reunification with Bryan Fuller, with whom he worked on Heroes (Quinto is not, however, going to be a part of Heroes Reborn). Quinto is really good at playing unstable or psycho characters, so I'm excited to see what he'll bring to Hannibal's world.

This casting news is the first we've had in awhile; early in January, we learned that Michael Pitt will not be returning as Mason Verger, but will instead be replaced by Joe Anderson (who is great, but he'll be under a lot of makeup anyway). Also, The Hobbit's Richard Armitage will also be joining the cast in the key Season 3 role of Francis Dolarhyde (a.k.a. The Toothy Fairy).  Finally, Broadway actress Nina Arianda has been cast as Will's love interest, as the show flashes forward after the events of the Season 2 finale.

You can also check out the Season 3 trailer, which shows Will on the hunt.

Hannibal Season 3 is set to return to NBC this summer.
