New photos have been released from NBC’s Hannibal series that we first got wind of last spring, when Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies) discussed the upcoming show starring Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale, and “the sexiest man in Denmark”) as a young Dr. Hannibal Lecter (or at least, pre-killer Lecter). Even more exciting is that the network isn’t making the series go for a typical 22 or 23-episode broadcast season, but a much tighter thirteen (mirroring cable dramas).
The series also stars Hugh Dancy (Martha Marcy May Marlene) as Lecter’s FBI partner, Lawrence Fishburne as their boss, and Scott Thompson (Kids in the Hall) as part of their unit. The series was originally slated to potentially be part of NBC’s fall lineup, but now looks more like to appear in spring of 2013. Hit the jump for more on the series and the pics.
Fuller said on the series,
“It’s before he was incarcerated, so he’s more of a peacock. There is a cheery disposition to our Hannibal. He’s not being telegraphed as a villain. If the audience didn’t know who he was, they wouldn’t see him coming. What we have is Alfred Hitchcock’s principle of suspense — show the audience the bomb under the table and let them sweat when it’s going to go boom. So the audience knows who Hannibal is so we don’t have to overplay his villainy. We get to subvert his legacy and give the audience twists and turns.”
According to the photos, it looks like there will be lots of blood and a high creepy factor, and with the truncated season a hope that the show will be more of a drama and less of a procedural.
