Today I’m very happy to bring you The Dark Knight Rises news that doesn’t involve grainy pictures of Christian Bale’s back. Composer Hans Zimmer is one of the best in the business, and he’s currently at work on the score for The Dark Knight Rises with James Newton Howard (the two also did The Dark Knight and Batman Begins) (Edit: Howard actually won’t be joining Zimmer on Dark Knight Rises after all). Zimmer is now turning to you, Batman fans, for help. It appears that they’ll be crowdsourcing audio to put into the finished film, and anyone with a microphone-equipped computer can participate. Hit the jump for the details.
Zimmer is organizing the crowdsourcing through Ujam.com (via Hollywood.com), where he’s posted a brief message to Bat fans the world over:
“We need to hear your voices! Now and Loud! We are creating the sound of a worldwide chant. Everyone come and be part of it. It’s easy: There is no such thing as out-of-tune, no timing we can’t fix later. If you mumble, growl, scream or whisper, it’s all good. Make it yours. If you only get halfway through, no problem! Do it alone, bring your friends, but do it with energy and commitment.Let your voice be heard and be a part of our adventure!”
No word on exactly how this all fits into the film, but you may remember the first chant-enhanced teaser trailer for the film, so this might have something to do with that. Head over to Ujam’s Dark Knight Rises page to make yourself a movie star.
Not sure where you heard James Newton Howard was collaborating with Zimmer again, but as far as I know (and according to the official press release), Zimmer is working by himself on this one.
This sucks.
i agree. i thought Zimmer was composing this one alone(kind of sucks because James NEwton Howard both worked with BB and TDK. but since Nolan worked with Zimmer alone on Inception, they might have figured they no longer need Newton Howard)
nweiz, if JNH is now confirmed, then it’s great news.
I love the scores to BB and TDK but I’m very sad to hear that JNH is not on board, he created beautiful themes that helped balance and emotionalize the score. Perfect example is “Agents of Chaos” on TDK soundtrack. Zimmer: Loud, synth, drums, noisy. Howard: Calm emotional tender and heart breaking.
This will be an interesting score.
