First HAPPY CHRISTMAS Trailer Starring Anna Kendrick, Mark Webber, and Lena Dunham

     May 20, 2014

Magnolia Pictures has released the first Happy Christmas trailer for Drinking Buddies writer/director Joe Swanberg’s new comedy.  The film stars Anna Kendrick as an immature, hard-partying twentysomething who moves in with her brother (Swanberg), his novelist wife (Melanie Lynskey), and their young baby, only to shake up their idyllic life.  Swanberg’s films are always heavily improvised, and the loose nature of the dialogue in Happy Christmas is evident in this first trailer.  The cast is talented and Swanberg is coming off his most successful film yet with Drinking Buddies, so hopefully this one makes for a solid follow-up.

I just can’t get past Lena Dunham’s hideous arm tattoo. It’s a friggin’ sheep. Why is there a sheep on her arm? And when will she find a half-way flattering hairstyle?

Another independent film about a loaner awkward hipster who is trying to find love and discover who they are while affecting the people around them…pass

Yeah, it’ll be people awkwardly connecting and fighting for 80 minutes, and then nothing is resolved at the end.

Is it just the YouTube, or is this movie going to look like crap? I mean image-wise. It looks like I’m watching something that was shot on 16 mm and then that image was shot with an old VHS camcorder. Like a kinescope version of a movie. Like the feed from an on-set video monitor. Looks awful, like ’90s-era digital video awful. Like bad Steven Soderbergh awful (i.e. “Full Frontal”).
