Now here’s something different. A clip has been released from a film called Hardcore, which was written and directed by Russian filmmaker Ilya Naishuller and stars Sharlto Copley. What makes the movie unique, though, is that it is a sci-fi/action film shot entirely in POV style. It’s certainly an interesting experiment that aims to put the viewer right into the middle of the action, but watching this clip I can’t help but wonder if I’d want to actually sit through a feature-length film of this kind. It feel a little like watching your friend play Call of Duty in that things are happening to you but you can’t control how you/the character reacts; I even got antsy in this clip with a bit of a “let me take the controls” feeling. It’s curious to say the least, though, and having wrapped principal photography, Naishuller is putting together a crowdfunding campaign in order to finish the CG effects and aid in the post-production process.
