Harrison Ford Broke Leg, Not Ankle on the Set of STAR WARS: EPISODE VII

harrison ford star wars episode 7

Last week, we heard Harrison Ford broke his ankle on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII.  On Monday, we learned Ford will miss eight weeks of filming.  According to publicist Ina Treciokas, Ford actually broke his leg while shooting.  It is an unfortunate development, but it sounds like Ford’s recovery is progressing as well as can be.  Treciokas said in a statement [via BBC]:

“His surgery was successful and he will begin rehab shortly.  He’s doing well and looks forward to returning to work.”

I hope this is our last update on Ford’s injury before we report his triumphant return to set in August.  Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, and Daisy Ridley also star in the highly anticipated sequel directed by J.J. AbramsStar Wars: Episode VII opens December 18, 2015.

The story behind Han Solo’s limp will launch entire lines of comic books, novels, fan fiction, and starwarswikia entries.

He actually broke his ankle, but George Lucas was brought in and he advised everyone to completely change the original story, and to tell everyone that Ford really broke his leg.

Also, just to be clear. it was the door that hit Ford….Ford did not hit the door.

No mention of his hand injury yet. What over health & safty issues are going on on this movie. Bet all kinds of things are going on in the workshops.

  • Keir Sittloh

Realistically he could have done both, it just depends which bone he broke. If he broke the tibia or fibula distally it would be his ankle and his leg. I am not sure what the stereotypical “ankle” break is, probably an avulsion fracture of the fibula.

I’m a Physical Therapist, it just always pisses me off when they announce that somebody “broke” their “ankle” or “leg” without actually telling us what the actual injury is.

        I knew it Keir!

what do you expect from Hollywood. 99% of the facts in their movies are false.

  • Oliver Queen

Well this is good news, hopefully he’ll make it into Episode VIII. I don’t get why all the commotion though, first time i read he broke his ankle the headlines were like “Star Wars: Episode 7 loses star…” or “Star Wars star crushed by Falcon door”. LOL

    • Daniel Ronczkowski

Lol what do you mean hopefully he will make it into the movie? He IS in the movie, he WILL be back, he is just healing.

So I guess Han’s scenes won’t be shot first?

J.J will turn this to his advantage. We will see Ol’ Han walking on crutches, after he was shot by Greedo’s heir
