HARRY POTTER and the HALF-BLOOD PRINCE Earns Over $58 Million on Opening Day

     July 16, 2009

After a record-setting midnight haul of $22.2 million from 3,003 theatres, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” rounded out its opening day with an estimated total of $58.4 million.  That was not enough to beat the all-time Wednesday record of $62 million set just last month by “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” but, considering the reduced price children’s tickets and the lack of available IMAX screens for the PG rated sixth “Potter” film, I’m sure Warner Brothers isn’t complaining.  Early five-day estimates predicted that “Half-Blood Prince” would earn about what its predecessor, “Order of the Phoenix”, did in 2007 – $139 million.  After this debut, however, I think it’s safe to say that the film will come closer to $200 million by Monday.  Check back all this weekend as we follow Potter’s progress…
