After yesterday’s Ron poster for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, I wagered that the next poster in the series (which previously included Harry and Hermoine) would feature Voldemort.  I lost my bet!  The new poster features unlikely hero Neville Longbottom (Matthew Lewis).  Neville is one of my favorite characters in the series because he’s the Harry Potter of the background.  Harry was heroic from day one, but Neville slowly grew into a hero and eventually became the leader of Dumbledore’s Army.  He has an absolutely badass moment in the final book and I’d be shocked if they didn’t include it in the film.

Hit the jump to check out the poster. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 opens in 3D on July 15th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2:

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2,” is the final adventure in the Harry Potter film series. The much-anticipated motion picture event is the second of two full-length parts.

In the epic finale, the battle between the good and evil forces of the wizarding world escalates into an all-out war. The stakes have never been higher and no one is safe. But it is Harry Potter who may be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice as he draws closer to the climactic showdown with Lord Voldemort.

It all ends here.

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, reprising their roles as Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. The film’s ensemble cast also includes Helena Bonham Carter, Jim Broadbent, Robbie Coltrane, Warwick Davis, Tom Felton, Ralph Fiennes, Michael Gambon, Ciarán Hinds, John Hurt, Jason Isaacs, Matthew Lewis, Gary Oldman, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, David Thewlis, Emma Thompson, Julie Walters and Bonnie Wright.

The film was directed by David Yates, who also helmed the blockbusters “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1.” David Heyman, the producer of all of the Harry Potter films, produced the film, together with David Barron. Screenwriter Steve Kloves adapted the screenplay, based on the book by J.K. Rowling. Lionel Wigram is the executive producer.

Behind the scenes, the creative team was led by director of photography Eduardo Serra, production designer Stuart Craig, editor Mark Day, composer Alexandre Desplat, visual effects supervisor Tim Burke, and costume designer Jany Temime.

Warner Bros. Pictures presents a Heyday Films production, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” which marks the last installment in the most successful film franchise of all time.

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” will be released worldwide in theatres and IMAX, in 3D and 2D, beginning July 15, 2011.”

Neville is the flipside to Harry. Poor, unpopular, and uncoordinated. What sets him apart is that he actively chose his role in the series. He chose to rise up and lead, unlike Harry who was the reluctant hero. Rowling always reminded the reader that Neville was the bravest of the bunch, chiefly because he was always afraid and always managed to overcome his fear.

Hey jymmymack! Sorry, I hate to be annoying, but I just needed to correct you to say that Neville isn’t poor. The Longbottoms are very wealthy. (sorry, my potterheadness just kicked in bigtime)

Neville’s awesome scene from the book IS in the movie….look who’s name is on the sword in the poster….

Scott is right. Look at the sword.

I was pretty sure it was, but since I haven’t seen the movie, I don’t want to say definitively that it is because some folks may assume that I have seen the flick.

True. I literally cannot wait to see this movie. I wonder what it will feel like when it is all over. There will be no more Harry Potter movies after this one, providing that JK Rowling doesn’t write any more Potter novels down the line. It seems crazy to think about.

    Re: Cody

I’d like to see more Potter novels that took place in that universe, but not with those characters. We’ve come to the end of their story and Rowling absolutely nailed that ending.

Just look at the sword you can tell the scene is in the movie. It would be dumb not to include it since that is one of the horcrux’s.
