HAWAII FIVE-O 2010 slice

CBS has released the opening credit sequence to the remake of Hawaii Five-O.  Starring Alex O’Loughlin, Scott Caan, Daniel Dae Kim, Grace Park and produced by Peter Lenkov, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, it’s no surprise the remake got picked-up.  Hit the jump to watch the new credit sequence and I’ve also posted the original so you can compare the two.  Hawaii Five-O will be airing Monday’s at 10pm.

Here’s the synopsis for Hawaii Five-O 2010:

A contemporary take on the classic series about a new elite federalized task force whose mission is to wipe out the crime that washes up on the Islands’ sun-drenched beaches.  Detective Steve McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin), a decorated Naval officer turned cop, returns to Oahu to investigate his father’s murder and stays after Hawaii’s governor persuades him to head up the new team: his rules, her backing, no red tape and full blanket immunity to hunt down the biggest “game” in town.  Joining McGarrett is Detective Danny “Danno” Williams (Scott Caan), a newly relocated ex-New Jersey cop who prefers skyscrapers to the coastline but is committed to keeping the Islands safe for his 8-year-old daughter; and Chin Ho Kelly (Daniel Dae Kim), an ex-Honolulu Police Detective wrongly accused of corruption and relegated to a federal security patrol, who is also a former protégé of McGarrett’s father.  Chin’s cousin, Kono (Grace Park), is a beautiful and fearless native, fresh out of the academy and eager to establish herself among the department’s elite.  McGarrett vows to bring closure to his father’s case while the state’s brash new FIVE-0 unit, who may spar and jest among themselves, is determined to eliminate the seedy elements from the 50th state.  Peter Lenkov, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are executive producers for CBS Television Studios.

Hmm… Love all the actors and who is creating it, but the opening sequence does not sell me. I’ll watch because they have produced other great hits and I follow the actors I love. I loved the Bionic Woman remake and that didn’t do so great. Daniel Dae Kim is supposed to also be in a yet unnamed medical drama that also has Skeet Ulrich from Jericho in it.

Wow this show has an excellent cast, Grace Park and Scott Caan are two of my favorite under-appreciated actors. I’m going through the fourth season of Battlestar Gallactica right now too lol.

I have a sudden urge to watch Gone in 60 Seconds and Boiler Room.

The original opening that is in the article isn’t what I remember seeing each week. This one is what I remember and the new one is more similar to my memory…

Kevin T posted the correct opening. I think one shown is from the original pilot movie for H50, not the actual series itself.

I can see where they copied exact scenes in the opening sequences. Not sure if that’s an homage or just theft. I’m not terribly fond of remakes – shows the utter lack of originality on the part of Hollywood.

It had better have good writing, or else I’ll bail. I like Alex O, but coudln’t stand his organ transplant series whose name I can’t even remember.

And the beginning is so friggin’ fast. Geez, let’s squeeze in another ad! ;) It reminds of a mix of CSI and Bionic Woman, seriously…

Wow, as much as I hate remakes, this could be fun. Sadly though, I already watch “Castle” when “5-0″ is on and I want to see 'Chase' on NBC. All 3 share the same slot and I can only record 2 at a time. Still, I have CBS HD on Demand. Hopefully they will put 5-0 in there

Hmmmm…..while I know I'll at least give this remake a try for a couple of episodes, nothing can top the original's theme music (which was by The Ventures, if I remember correctly…). And they've changed Kono to a woman now. Of course…gotta be p.c., don't we? LOL Or, at least, we have to have a hot chick in the line up to get the male audience…..

    Grace ParK!!!!!!

I kinda like the 'big band' epic opus style of the original theme. While I'm glad that they kept the same music, the original one sounded way more grand.

Smooth move by Daniel Dae Kim…he may never leave Hawaii at this rate. They should totally find an excuse to have his character film a scene in one the regular Lost locales, and have him do a double take. Wh-what?!?

I think this could be the greatest, the old shows of Hawaii five-0 were great, can't wait to see this new version.

Well they certainly did fuck up the best TV theme song ever made with that dumbass synthesizer Bullshit redo. At least Grace Park will hold our interest during all of the “trying to be cool” overacting being done by the Jack Lord wannabe.

I`m loving the show thus far…they`ve also been filming a lot just down the street from me! The action scenes and stunts are done the way they should be, and I can see this show making it for a few seasons easily.

  • Five-O Fan

As a fan of the original Five-O, I have watched all the episodes so far. I liked how it connect to the old series by answering some of the mysteries the original show did not answer, like why it is called Five-O. The character selections are pretty good except one, Danno. Do you think Steve McGarrett, as a former naval commander, will accept the emotional flying off the handle and the bad mouthing of Danno? The appeal of the original Five-O is the thinking through to solve the crime. The new show is just too emotional for me.

I have just got round to watchin this remake of Five-O. Unlike, PBMon’s comment, I initially liked the opening sequence, but after a few seconds,I became disappointed, #1: Irish terrorist and a bomb and here is the kicker, #2: McGarrett & Danno go looking for a baddie arms dealer, deep in the heart of HAWAII trailer park district & guess what ? The baddie arms dealer is a black dude with dread locks !! Now what’s chance of that? I have never been to the beautiful island of HAWAII, but unlike the Bronx or L.A, I got a funny feeling that there are few & far between black arm dealers with dread locks hanging around on the Island. As I watched the show, not a single other black dude or babe character appeared.

I am not black nor American, but from watch I can see from American cops shows is blacks typically appears as villains. Dont get me wrong, of course there are black villains in real life. That would be like saying the catholic church dont cover up child abuse. But after a while its just become a wee bit precipitable. In this case: a new show & within minutes, black bad guy character. Why do African Americans put up with this insult?

On the plus side: I have always been a gr8 fan of the lovly Ms Grace Park. I just loved seein her on the beach. Oh wow, smoking hot body…I almost ran for the tissues.
But I dont suppose there will be more of those shots of her. Shame!!

I am a fan of the original series forty two years ago. When I watched the new version I was very much impressed. I hope that it will be on the air for a very long time!
