With Captain America: The First Avenger arriving in theaters in a few days, I spent most of last weekend interviewing the cast and filmmakers. As I said in the intro to my Chris Evans and screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely interviews, I absolutely loved this movie and think everyone involved did an amazing job bringing Captain America to life. Trust me, if you were nervous about Chris Evans as Cap, or that Marvel couldn’t make a period piece, you’re going to be blown away this weekend. Also, while I thought the love story in Thor was nonexistent, the relationship between Evans and Hayley Atwell (she plays Peggy Carter) felt real and believable. It was actually one of the best parts of the movie.
Anyhow, a few days ago I got to sit down with Atwell. We discussed the intense internet casting reports before production began, the immensity of the film and how everyone was trying to get photos from set, the romance between her character and Captain America, deleted scenes, the costumes, doing stunts in high heels, how she prepared for the film, and potential sequels. Hit the jump to watch.
Finally, if you’ve read any Captain America comics, this interview is safe to watch. But if you don’t know the story of Captain America, or you’re trying to stay spoiler free, I strongly advise waiting to watch this interview until you’ve seen the movie.

ehhh different comic book movie same bland actress all these white chicks look the same
Nothing racist about your comment jack…
Your Gay right?
You’re an ass.
She may be a type (this IS Hollywood we’re talking about here), but at least she’s good looking. I’m tired of lead actresses in superhero movies being mediocre in looks, or just downright ugly. Also, studios often just cast the wrong actresses entirely — the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies, the Nolan Batman movies, just to name a couple franchises.
It’s shouldn’t matter how the actress looks; what matters is her actual performance, and hollywood has cast attractive looking women in comic book films before (and will in the future. However, the acting is the only aspect that should really matter.
Bland? Far from it.
Racism on white people.
Wow. So original. But legal, right?
Cool! Thanks Frosty! When are you going to post your review of Captain America? Really looking forward to what you have to say. Really glad you liked it, means I’ll enjoy it!
wow shes really cute
Bland? No She’s a cutie and has some tig o bitties(hint – if she was your mommy you would never go thirsty ever)
thanks for the hint, man. i never would have figured out what you meant.
The juvenile vulgarities, the abyssmal spelling and lack of proper punctuation on this page’s comments section today seems to be rivalling that of comicbookmovie.com.
What gives? FYI to the commentor who is dissing ‘white chick’ actresses, Hayley Atwell is half Native American…
Damn, she is so gorgeous.
I have a dream, that one day we can judge actresses not by the size of their jubblies, but by the content of their performances. I have a dream today.
She was good in The Duchess, so I look forward to seeing her in Captain America.
Frosty,
Did you get an after-the-credits scene in your Captain America screening(s)?
Saw it last night. Nothing but the text “Captain America will return in The Avengers”. Packed theater booed and chucked popcorn. Well, the popcorn chucking was me, but you get my drift.
@stinky- Did it seriously only play the text ‘Captain America will return in the Avengers’ and stop playing? If so, you sir, got jipped – There’s a short interaction between Nick Fury and Steve Rogers then you get a full on teaser trailer for The Avengers movie that comes out in May 2012.
This film looks like complete shite, but I’m happily handing over 6 quid to see Atwell’s big, floppy, tits bounce around on the big screen for 2 hours. Thank you Hollywood
After reading these posts filled with sexism, prejudice, and misogyny it’s safe to abandon all hope in humanity (or at least in the 20somethings). When people don’t have the brain power to speak with intelligence and sophistication they tend to make provocative comments intent on “getting a rise.” It just goes to show you we do not need heroes like Captain America to save us from evil power mongers, because with minds like these we are a dead nation.
The movie was great and so was Atwell. Not only is she beautiful but she also was great as Peggy in the film.
This actress looks prettier in real life than she did in the movie. However, she stopped the show when she wore that red dress!
she did good
