New details have emerged on Walter Hill’s upcoming action flick Headshot starring Sylvester Stallone and Thomas Jane. As we previously reported, the story centers on a hitman (Stallone) and an NYPD detective (Jane) who team up to exact revenge. According to What’s Playing, the film will be, much like Stallone’s The Expendables, a throwback to 80s buddy action flicks. Hill reportedly signed on for the flick because it reminded him of the films he used to make like 48 Hrs. and Red Heat. WP also says that Hill has fine-tuned Alessandro Camon’s script and improved the “cool” dialogue and central relationship between Stallone and Jane’s characters.
I desperately hope that this film is better than Expendables and having Hill behind the camera gives me that hope. However, it’s interesting/sad that ever since 2006′s Rocky Balboa, Stallone has essentially acknowledged that he’s a relic and that the only way his stardom can continue is if he can transport audiences back to when he was actually a star.
I agree about his career, but think of it this ironic way: Stallone became a joke for being in so many Rambo and Rocky films. But ressurrected his career playing those same iconic careers. I enjoyed The Expendables for what it was. It was not as good as either of the last entries in his franchises. I do look forward to this Headshot film. Thomas Jane is cool enough.
Stallone for all he has done, really has nothing more to prove. I am huge Stallone fan and enjoy what he puts out even if I see his projects are not the greatest. The Expendables for what the film was, mission accomplished. The film itself was not the greatest but for an 80′s throwback film it was OK. The film made money, bottom line. Stallone deserves another chance to make a sequel to this, after all he is the king of sequels. Anyone with huge expectations of Stallone these days, forget it, that ship has sailed. Enjoy what he puts out for fun, his best years are behind him.
“However, it’s interesting/sad that ever since 2006’s Rocky Balboa, Stallone has essentially acknowledged that he’s a relic and that the only way his stardom can continue is if he can transport audiences back to when he was actually a star.”
Or maybe he’s simply trying to revive an awesome genre that today’s cynical movie-going audiences desperately need. Seriously, 80s action-star flicks were so much fun, and every day I wish we still had those. If it takes an action hero from that era to revive them, I’m in.
I hope Sylvester Stallone does more movies like he used to, particularly more dramas, focusing on acting in more movies and no longer directing. He is an underrated actor and should have joined the A-list years ago. So, I hope he does more dramas, tries to reach his full potential as an actor and tries to win an Oscar.
Stallone is about pure escapism. Its making a come back. Just like any fantacy film with fairies and dragons, his movies are not based in OUR reality. Its based in the reality of the film. They are fun, action packed, thrill rides. Stallone has proven he can act when he needs to (Cop Land, Rocky, Rocky Balboa). Stallone is an entertainer, and you have to give him credit where it is due, he has found his niche, and found out how he can best entertain. We should all be as fortunate as him to create characters that will survive him for many years. Stallone is the ultimate professional. Give him respect.
How is it sad? it’s good. He could just sit on his ass in his mansion spending all his money on stuff and enjoying his personal life but instead he hits the gym hard(It’s hell to get ripped like he is now when you’re young so imagine how hard it is at 64) and gives us bad-ass action flicks that are no longer around, Rambo was one of the greatest action movies of the last decade and even though the expendables could have been alot better it was still better than most action movies these days, and i have faith that expendables 2 will be alot better. And like someone above said Stallone has proven he is a great actor when he wants to be(Rocky, Rocky Balboa, Copland but most of all for me, First blood). Would you rather he did those crappy straight to dvd movies that he made in the early 00′s?
@ Matt….looks like someone has been drinking the Haterade. STEP YO HATE GAME UP!!!
Matt has ALWAYS hated Stallone. Proof being, He bashed The Expendables the whole opening week, and kept pleading with people to see Scot Pilgram. It was rediculous. Didnt give Sly ANY credit for having the biggest opener of his entire career, just kept talking about how he thought Scott Pilgram was the greatest ever, even though that was only in the theaters for like, 3 weeks. Epic bomb. I love Edgar Winter, but a choice between Expendables, and Pilgram, Expendables will win every time.
Matt is a pussy!
“Stallone has essentially acknowledged that he’s a relic and that the only way his stardom can continue is if he can transport audiences back to when he was actually a star.”
The Expendables toal Gross: $274,468,524. Yeah, your right Matt, he is totally not actually a star. Yep, he has no drawing power…Def not good at what he does. Stop hating Sly Matt! YAH JERK!
Matt….i’m coming to get YOU!
You don’t seem to want to accept the fact you’re dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who’s the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who’s been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In Vietnam his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well Rambo was the best.
I actually meant to say: Goldberg…i’m coming to get YOU!
He’s gonna need a good supply of body bags.
Matt Goldturd, I dont deal with psychos…Your the disease, and I’m the cure.
Why are you such a piece of crap? Why do you hate Stallone so much Matt!? Respond and defend yourself. If you feel this way for a reason back it up, or leave your dumb comments to yourself. Your obviously the odd man out.
I thought the last Rambo was unbelivable. It totally blew me away. One man enters Burma carrying only a home made machete and a bow and arrow and sorts the whole shit out. It has to have the largest body count of any movie. Expendables was incredibly disappointing. I hope this movie delivers some proper old school 80′s action.
Stallone ROCKS! “The Expendables”, kicked ass and I look forward to the 2nd flick! I find the idea of Walter Hill directing, “Headshot”, really refreshing!
