Oscar-winner Helen Mirren is set to star opposite Russell Brand in the upcoming remake of the 1981 Dudley Moore comedy Arthur. According to Variety, Mirren will be taking on the role of “Hobson”, played by Sir John Gielgud in the original. Gielgud won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his performance. The 1981 version has Arthur (Moore) forced to set out to marry a woman he loves in order to keep his family’s inheritance. Hobson is Arthur’s valet who gives advice to the drunken millionaire.
Mirren recently finished shooting on the action flick Red starring alongside Bruce Willis and John Malkovich. She also played the traditionally male role of Prospero in Julie Taymor’s The Tempest (which also co-stars Brand), although who knows when we’ll see that since Miramax–who was supposed to distribute the flick–has been shut down.
