Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for director Spike Jonze’s upcoming romantic drama Her.  The story revolves around a man (Joaquin Phoenix) who falls in love with his operating system (voiced by Scarlett Johansson).  The film picked up considerable acclaim at its New York Film Festival Premiere, with Matt calling it a “tender, funny, and touching love story” in his review.  This trailer (aided by the musical stylings of Arcade Fire’s “Supersymmetry”) continues to highlight the central romance while also revealing a refreshingly warm performance by Phoenix.  Her really looks to be something quite special, and I can’t wait to check out the full film.

Hit the jump to watch the new trailer and to check out a large batch of high-resolution images.  The film also stars Amy Adams, Rooney Mara, and Olivia WildeHer opens in limited release on December 18th and expands wide on January 10th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Her:

Set in Los Angeles, slightly in the future, “her” follows Theodore Twombly, a complex, soulful man who makes his living writing touching, personal letters for other people. Heartbroken after the end of a long relationship, he becomes intrigued with a new, advanced operating system, which promises to be an intuitive entity in its own right, individual to each user. Upon initiating it, he is delighted to meet “Samantha,” a bright, female voice, who is insightful, sensitive and surprisingly funny. As her needs and desires grow, in tandem with his own, their friendship deepens into an eventual love for each other. From the unique perspective of Oscar-nominated filmmaker Spike Jonze comes an original love story that explores the evolving nature—and the risks—of intimacy in the modern world.
