First Trailer and Poster for Spike Jonze’s HER Starring Joaquin Phoenix

     August 7, 2013

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer and poster for director Spike Jonze’s new film Her.  The romance centers on a lonely writer (Joaquin Phoenix) who falls in love with his operating system.  The film looks reminiscent of Jonze’s previous works: an outlandish premise that yields a joyous story tinged with sadness.  I’m sure there will be Siri jokes galore, but to be fair, Siri would be a lot more endearing if it was smarter and sounded like Scarlett Johansson.  But back to the trailer, I’m even more excited to see this movie than I was before.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer and poster.  The film also stars Rooney Mara and Amy AdamsHer opens in limited release on November 20th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Her:

Set in Los Angeles, slightly in the future, “her” follows Theodore Twombly, a complex, soulful man who makes his living writing touching, personal letters for other people. Heartbroken after the end of a long relationship, he becomes intrigued with a new, advanced operating system, which promises to be an intuitive entity in its own right, individual to each user. Upon initiating it, he is delighted to meet “Samantha,” a bright, female voice, who is insightful, sensitive and surprisingly funny. As her needs and desires grow, in tandem with his own, their friendship deepens into an eventual love for each other. From the unique perspective of Oscar-nominated filmmaker Spike Jonze comes an original love story that explores the evolving nature—and the risks—of intimacy in the modern world.

Thank you for not having anything sarcastic to say Matt. This is why I come to Collider, to get news.

what is she funny or something

  • NapaDude85

I hate to be a buzz kill but doesn’t this seem a little like Lars And The Real Girl? I mean it’s seem to be about a guy who can’t connect with society, so he fall in love with inanimate object because it’s easier than falling in love with a real person. Phoenix is even sporting the same awesome mustache that Gosling had. lol

I loved Lars And The Real Girl and this could be pretty cool too….will see.

For the most part it seems that way but, i think Amy Adams is his psychiatrist and recommends the OS so he can reconnect with people, not to fall in love or supply a need, like Lars and the real girl. Its a kinda subtle change. So its not that he cant connect, he is depressed and shit.

      • NapaDude85

Amy Adams looks more like the concerned friend who secretly has a crush on him and by end of the movie ends up helping him realize that that he can be loved by someone other than a Siri like OS. Will see how it all plays out though.

Why is it bad that this movie is similar to another movie?

Looks good. Anyone else think Phoenix kinda looks like Leonard from the Big Bang Theory in this.

    • Pk

Yeah he does. I was half hoping the movie would have a twist with the os taking form of Scarlett herself

      • Jeremy D

Maybe some ‘Weird Science’ action will happen.

It’s like falling in love with Siri…Damn I should’ve thought of that

    looks great

Looks really good – interesting concept and well acted. I don’t know if it’s the type of movie that I’d feel the need to see in theaters (don’t necessarily need a big screen for this kind of intimate movie…especially with today’s ticket prices), but I would definitely Redbox and/or buy it. Not a bash at all – just seems like a movie I’d rather watch in my living room. Does that make sense at all?

(I wonder if they prepared for the movie by having long, continuous phone conversations and such. It would definitely be an odd acting experience.)

  • P.K.

Nice to know Joaquin can still be sane if he wants. Great footage. Really intrigued. Anyone else catch that the music is gonna be done by Arcade Fire? Pretty neat..

    • Hopeless

Yup, Arcade Fire’s going to score the movie and judging by the trailer, with Yeah Yeah Yeahs’s Skeletons in the background, you know the soundtrack of the movie’s going to be amazing.
