Millennium Films has released the first trailer for director Renny Harlin’s (Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger) period actioner Hercules: The Legend Begins and it’s…something.  The film aims to tell the origin story of the titular Hercules (Kellan Lutz), as we follow the character’s quest to claim his one true love, Hebe, who has been promised to his own brother.  The trailer promises a mix of 300 and Gladiator with a dash of supernatural mysticism thrown in for good measure, all done with the quality of a direct-to-DVD genre cash-in or a Spike TV Original Movie.  The effects are rather lacking and Lutz barely says a word throughout the trailer’s 3-minute runtime.  It doesn’t look like Dwayne Johnson and Brett Ratner’s Hercules film has to worry about The Legend Begins stealing its thunder. At all.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  The film also stars Scott Adkins, Liam McIntyre, Liam Garrigan, Jonathon Schaech, Roxanne McKee, Gaia Weiss, and Rade SerbedzijaHercules: The Legend Begins will be released in 3D sometime next year.

Here’s the official synopsis for Hercules: The Legend Begins:

In Ancient Greece 1200 B.C., a queen succumbs to the lust of Zeus to bear a son promised to overthrow the tyrannical rule of the king and restore peace to a land in hardship. But this prince, Hercules, knows nothing of his real identity or his destiny. He desires only one thing: the love of Hebe, Princess of Crete, who has been promised to his own brother. When Hercules learns of his greater purpose, he must choose: to flee with his true love or to fulfill his destiny and become the true hero of his time. The story behind one of the greatest myths is revealed in this action-packed epic – a tale of love, sacrifice and the strength of the human spirit.

once the lightning struck his sword i just couldnt stop laughing the rest of the trailer. i can’t wait to see how much this makes in its opening weekend. i’m guessing it won’t even break the top 10

Same thought. He-Man meets Gladiator meets 300. I like all those things, I also like Mustard, cheesecake and Pepsi, but you’ll never catch me eating them in the same bite…

  • Agarwaen

    this look so straight-to-dvd

  • $2367358

Not any more the Hercules of myth than any of the other ones. Steve Reeves is still the best Hercules ever, then Kevin Sorbo.

  • Kale

Wow, did this movie cost $10 dollars? Gee, Kellan Lutz will do anything!

  • Jercules

That wasn’t a trailer, it was a mini version of the entire movie. Pass.

  • Colky Bucek

OMG this will be sooooooooooo much better than Gladiator…NOT!

  • RunnerX13

I didn’t even realize until more than half way through that the character was actually Hercules. I figured it was a Sparticus rip, where the character was using the name.

OF COURSE THIS IS A CASH IN FOR “Millennium Films”. THIS IS THE SAME MOVIE COMPANY THAT RELEASED A “WHITE HOUSE ATTACK” FILM CALLED OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN THAT MADE TO THEATERS MONTHS BEFORE WHITE HOUSE DOWN (THAT STARTED CHANNING TATUM AND JAMIE FOXX) THIS YEAR. SO THIS IS THEIR SAME STICK AND GIMMICK THAT THEY’RE DOING NEXT YEAR FOR ONLY THIS TIME WITH HERCULES BY RELEASED THEIR FILM STARING TWILIGHT BUFF KELLAN LUTZ IN MARCH WHILE DWAYNE JOHNSON’S HERCULES IS RELEASED IN AUGUST OF NEXT YEAR. THE WHOLE FUNNY THING ABOUT THIS IS THE SAME COMPANY (MILLENNIUM FILMS) THAT RELEASED THE EXPENDABLES SERIES AND THOSE NICK CAGE FILMS LIKE TRESPESS, THE FROZEN GROUND, AND STOLEN.

I haven’t watched this trailer yet and admittedly I am in no real hurry to. I just need to say that without a doubt Olympus has Fallen was the better attack the white house movie. Olympus has Fallen wasn’t anything spectacular but it was passable. White House Down was utter child’s s**t. White House Down was so poorly written that they wrote a car chase scene into a movie that takes place inside a house.

      • GunzOfNavarone

I switched that crap off after 50 minutes, at the point you’re supposed to believe the president of the white house is climbing an elevator shaft. That plus Tatum’s acting was effing dreadful.

      • Fitzchiv

white house down is easily one of the worst movies i have ever seen, utter vomit

  • Yurine

    lol no.

  • Orion

    Looks like shit.

I’m glad Scott Adkins is getting bigger roles, but this film looks horrible. I’m also curious as to why he is playing King Amphitryon, as it doesn’t seem like a role that will have many fight scenes.

  • The Flobbit

Hey, the fight scenes look great!

  • OhDawg

    God damn, that looks terrible.

Fingers crossed that Renny Harlin can bankrupt this studio as well. Brett Ratner’s film with the Rock looks like an Oscar contender next to this crap. Kellen Lutz is just not leading man material and the special effects look like they were from Highlander. Unless the reviews come out better than what is advertised (Dredd), this will tank in the US and with a prayers chance may do better over seas. I feel that this studio heard about the Rock’s film and thought they could do a quick cash grab by releasing a similiar film before it can open (Olympus Has Fallen) but with no talent to back it up. At least Olympus has Fallen was a passable action flick that had some decent talent in front and behind the camera and that was the reason why it made money at the box office over White House Down.

  • Dip

this looks like straight up hot garbage. Liam Mcintyre should have been a part of Ratner’s Hercules with Dwayne Johnson instead of this crap

  • Vladimir Rojas Loyola

Dam… Looks like fanmade from Troy, Gradiator and 300…

  • ItsNotaSchooner

Wow. That looks awful, and yet, I can’t wait to see it in all its shitty glory!!

  • carl napolitano

    WOW…that is just horrible!

  • Ozweego

    Can’t wait! This looks awesome!

Wait, this isn’t the comment board for Anchorman 2! WTF!!!

  • poppincherry

After that dude said, “where is your strength now, half god?”. Hurc broke loose from some shackles and the film sped up like a goddamn cartoon.
    Fail!
Straight to VOD! Like most of the shit coming out of that clown factory known as Hollywood.
