NBC has announced that Masi Oka will reprise his Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated role as the space and time-traveling Hiro Nakamura in a guest-starring arc for their new event series Heroes Reborn. The Heroes follow-up chronicles the lives of ordinary people who discover they possess extraordinary abilities. Also returning is original castmember Jack Coleman, aka Noah Bennet, aka The Man in Horn Rimmed Glasses. Oka and Coleman are joined by newcomers Zachary Levi, Ryan Guzman, Robbie Kay, Danika Yarosh, Judith Shekoni, Kiki Sukezane, Henry Zebrowski and Gatlin Green.

Oka commented on his return,

I’m excited to return to my ‘Heroes’ roots. Hiro Nakamura was such an inspirational role to play, and I’m hoping the fans will enjoy seeing him back on TV.

Series creator/executive producer Tim Kring, who is returning for the new series says,

We are thrilled to have Masi back in the ‘Heroes’ family. The character of Hiro Nakamura was such a huge part of the first series’ success, and a gigantic fan favorite. We felt the fans would really love seeing him back in action again.

Little is known about NBCs limited run revival series. It is set for a 13-episode run in the fall of 2015. With Oka and Coleman back, Heroes Reborn has landed two my two favorite characters from the original series and officially gained my attention. While Heroes seriously went off the rails at a certain point, I was a huge fan of the world-building in the first season. If they can bring back the elements that made Heroes strong to begin with and ditch the absurd b-plots that dragged it down, this could be great, or at least great fun. The 13-episode run gives me hope. Heroes always excelled at creating excellent characters, and I'd love to see a couple more returning cast members, but I'm also glad they're stocking up on new actors. Let Heroes Reborn be its own thing.

What do you think? Are you excited for Heroes Reborn? Who else would you like to see return?
