NBC is developing its second legally-based comedy of the season with "Barely Legal", a half hour series set to star Hilary Duff. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Duff will portray Kathleen Holtz – a young woman who passed the California State Bar Exam in 2007 at age 18. This achievement made Holtz California's youngest practicing lawyer – although the fact that she sold her story to Hollywood so quickly probably means she's not actually "practicing" at the moment.

"Barely Legal" was developed by "Northern Exposure" alum Rob Morrow and has received a script commitment from NBC. Clearly the network is hoping for a "Legally Blonde" sized hit. Oh hell, even a "Boston Legal" sized hit would be welcome at the network at the moment, which is probably why David E Kelley's "Boston" follow-up "Legally Mad" has also gotten the go-ahead from NBC.
