Fresh off last week’s new trailer debut, Warner Bros. has released the first two TV spots for director Peter Jackson’s sequel The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and if An Unexpected Journey’s marketing campaign is any indication, this is only the beginning of what’s sure to be a serious onslaught of Hobbit goodness.  Both TV spots are essentially shorter versions of the new trailer, but it looks like there are a couple bits of new footage in each.  The spots also advertise the HFR 3D release of the film, and I’m interested to see how wide the studio’s HFR release will go.  For An Unexpected Journey only a portion of the nation’s theaters were HFR ready, but WB promised that number to be larger by the time Smaug opened.

Hit the jump to take a look at the TV spots.  The film stars Martin Freeman, Ian McKellan, Evangeline Lilly, Richard Armitage, Orlando Bloom, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, and many more.  The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug opens in 2D, 3D, and HFR 3D on December 13th.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug:

The second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug continues the adventure of the title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.
