Filming Wraps on THE HOBBIT

     July 6, 2012

After numerous delays and production limbo, Peter Jackson‘s The Hobbit went in front of cameras in March 2011.  Today, filming has wrapped on the two-part prequel to The Lord of the Rings.  Jackson released the following statement on his Facebook page:  “We made it! Shoot day 266 and the end of principal photography on The Hobbit. Thanks to our fantastic cast and crew for getting us this far, and to all of you for your support! Next stop, the cutting room. Oh, and Comic Con!”

I’m curious if the terrific production blogs will continue, and we’ll get a peek into the films’ editing process.  In any event, we’ll definitely be getting a new look at the film when the movie comes by Hall H next Saturday.  The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opens in 3D on December 14th.  The Hobbit: There and Back Again opens in 3D on December 13th, 2013.  Hit the jump for the synopsis, and in LOTR-related news, click here for the first Mondo poster for the beloved fantasy franchise.

“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” follows title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers. Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain, first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever… Gollum. Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s “precious” ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities… A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

I have NO problems sharing this…

This news brought me to tears. It’s finally becoming REAL to me. After waiting nearly 10 years…it’s finally coming. There is nothing else coming out this year that comes even remotely close to my anticipation for this film. I’m driving 11 hours back home to see this with about 30 of my friends that I’ve promised for 10 years to see it with.

    I cannot wait!

  • pewter tea set

amazing but also kinda sad for some reason :-\ . i too hope we will get more production videos!

    • gcm443

I know exactly what you mean. When Return of the King came out I was really sad that it was over and since then I was chasing down every bit of Hobbit news for almost ten years. Even though I’m excited for these movies, it really will be over and that kinda sucks lol

Oh you stupid motherfucker named Matt, there will be one vlog next, then it’s over.

    Dear Pocketses,
you are a flaming looser. And I want you to know you embody all that is great with this society of apple nutters and mindless sheep. If it wern’t for people like you I would have to get a job and do real work. Since mindless drowns such as your self so blindly run into the abyss of fabrication built by people with more imagination and creativity than your self it is easy to make a buck in this world. So my helpful tip is you are a moron and need to shake loose of your silly distractions and focus on reality. And thank you for your moronic behavior for with out it there would be no one to sell franchised merchandise to.

    • Sloane

Bit of a hypocritical move calling someone a moron when you yourself can’t even spell “loser” correctly. Next time you try to write above your grade level, have someone edit your rant… It’ll make your point seem a little more valid.

See you in middle earth bitches!

I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say how impressed I am with your superiority.

I have just one thing to say: when will we see the Children of Hurin?

  • joe

after seeing the trailer in 48fps, i am concerned that this will ruin the movies for me. hope to be proven wrong.
