First Look at Oin and Gloin from Peter Jackson’s THE HOBBIT

     July 8, 2011

Yesterday, we showed the first image of Dori, Ori, and Nori from Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit.  Today, we’re getting a look at fellow dwarves Oin (John Callen) and Gloin (Peter Hambleton).  As you can see, dwarves certainly enjoy their battle axes and styling their facial hair.  As a little background, Gloin is Gimli’s father and Oin is Gloin’s brother (are you starting to get a sense of how dwarven families name their kids?).  Like all dwarves in The Hobbit, they accompany a young Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) on the Quest of Erebor on which Bilbo found The One Ring and encountered Gollum and the dragon Smaug.

Hit the jump to check out the image.  The film also stars Ian McKellen, James Nesbitt, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, and Andy Serkis.  The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be released on December 14, 2012.  The Hobbit: There and Back Again will hit theaters on December 13, 2013.  Both movies will be in 3D.

Here’s the synopsis for J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit:

Bilbo Baggins, the hobbit, is a peaceful sort of cozy hole in the Shire, a place where adventures are uncommon and rather unwanted. So when the wizard Gandalf whisks him away on a treasure hunting expedition with a troop of rowdy dwarves, he’s not entirely thrilled. Encountering ruthless trolls, beastly orcs, gigantic spiders, and hungry wolves, Bilbo discovers within himself astonishing strength and courage. And at the ultimate confrontation with the fearsome dragon Smaug, the hobbit will brave the dangers of dark and dragon fire alone and unaided. [Amazon]

Nice Designs:D Gloin almost looks exactly the same as he did in the ‘Battle for Middle Earth’ ROTS games in the PC. Except there he was kinda balding.

Now THAT’S what a Tolkien dwarf is supposed to look like!

funny they are showing the dwarfs in small groups at a time like in the book

I hope to god that Jackson does not rewrite the hobbit storyline as badly as he rewrote the Lord of the Rings. I will always consider Jackson’s version of TLOTR to be the worst hackjob of the 20th century. It was so rewritten as to be barely recognizable. Arwen had no speaking part in the book and was only referenced. The whole idea of Legolas skating down the stairs of Helms Deep while firing off arrows still makes me cringe. The CGI was good but that’s par for the course. It wasn’t what Tolkien envisioned, it was all rather what Jackson decided it should look like. Big difference in the end. Tolkien is rolling over in his grave.

I know it was two. ^^

Now, having said that, if they made a giant blockbuster with no relevent female characters, they’d have been crucified. And yeah, the scene with Legolas and the shield and the stairs and the sliding is awful. I hate it so hard. But, those two things not a hackjob make. Barely recognizable? Lets see, Frodo gets the ring from Bilbo, runs from the Wraiths, puts a team together in Rivendell, Boromir dies, Sauron and Saruman are defeated and the ring is destroyed in Mount Doom. Not to mention, all the characters are there, and many little side plot points. To say “unrecognizable” is ignorant and ludacris.

Now, I’m sure you’re just a troll, trying to make people upset with your absurd trolling antics. BUT, if you’re not, you’re a wrong and sad individual.

Hopefully they pronounce the names correctly. It’s GLO-in (like glowin’) and OH-in (like owin’), not Gloyn and Oyn.
