Unrated Trailer for HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN Starring Rutger Hauer

The unrated trailer for Hobo with a Shotgun has gone online and it is awesomely work-unfriendly.  Starring the great Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner) as (you guessed it) a homeless man wielding a shotgun, the film has an unsettling and gritty tone that screams B-movie excellence (although I doubt it will help squash the fears of hobophobes).  Honestly, if the film was simply a 90-minute loop of the painfully bleak speech Hauer delivers in the trailer, I’d still pay to see it.

Hobo is the first feature film from director and co-writer Jason Eisener and is the second feature to be made of the faux trailers attached to Grindhouse (of which Robert Rodriguez’s Machete is the first).  [Correction: A reader has astutely pointed out that the trailer for Hobo with a Shotgun was not attached to Grindhouse. Instead, it was the winner of a 2007 contest held at SXSW which asked filmmakers to submit faux trailers akin to the ones attached to Grindhouse.] To check out the gloriously creepy trailer for yourself, hit the jump .

This was never one of the trailers for Grindhouse…

    Good point. I should clarify:

The trailer was not attached to the film. Rather, it was the winner of a faux trailer contest held at SXSW by Rodriguez in 2007 as part of promo for Grindhouse.

I have submitted a correction. Thanks for reading!

Wasn’t it shown at some screenings of Grindhouse? I could have sworn…

It wasn’t at the screening I saw. I do believe that, per winning the contest, it was then shown at some screenings. Either way, I should have been more clear.

Most importantly, I think the trailer/film looks interesting and I look forward to seeing the film.

I think it was attached to some screenings in Canada.

looks almost as interesting as ‘Machete’. Always a fan of Rutger.

In fact, the “trailer” for HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN was attached to all theatrical prints of GRINDHOUSE distributed in Canada by Alliance releasing, the film’s Canadian distributor (Filmmaker Eisner and his producer are both from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada).

im looking forward to this… it reminds me a lot of my favorite “intentionally b” movie Street Trash.

Im only worried about the many young actors trying to look mean or insane in the trailer… the hero needs a nemesis of his own age or older.
Also the concept of making something over the top and playing it like that on purpose its a very delicate one and many times it comes out as a pose and feels phony.
I really want this to work so here’s hoping for a future cult movie.

There you have it. Thanks, Evan.

Rutger Hauer by now shouldve had his star on the walk of fame. It’s a shame he’s even doing these cheesy B-Flicks , He deserves much better .

People get nominated, but ultimately pay for their star–or someone pays for them. It’s not totally an “honor” thing, I believe, but often a money or movie-promotion thing. That aside, it still is neat to walk down Hollywood Blvd and see the stars.

O wow Ive forgotten what a fantastic actor Mr. Hauer is. Here’s hoping that this and SPOON actually make it to theatres
