Hogwarts Survives Fire – HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS Filming Doesn’t Miss a Beat

On Friday night a fire started on the set of the still filming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.  The way some U.K. papers reported the news, you would have thought the fire took out every set and production was going to be delayed.  As you can tell from my tone, this was not the case.

The reason I know this is I’m in London and just got back from a Harry Potter set visit.  While there, the unit publicist said we could provide an update on exactly what happened so the real story would get out there.  Hit the jump for more:

While I’ll try and add the exact quote of what she said…the main points are:

– the fire took place during second unit filming Friday night

– there were NO principle cast on set at the time

– it was a small fire and it was the result of an effect.  The fire was handled by the Leavesden Studios fire brigade and it was put out within an hour. They only called the local fire department as a precautionary measure.

– No one was hurt

– There are no delays in the production schedule as a result of the fire

So you’re probably wondering what exactly was destroyed.  It was an exterior Hogwarts courtyard set.  Again, no damage to any of the long standing other sets.

What was interesting in all this is the area that was damaged by fire was due to be rebuilt as it suffered damage in the battle of Hogwarts sequence and they needed to film there when it’s still in perfect shape…so it ended up not being a big deal.
