First Trailer for HOMEFRONT Starring Jason Statham and James Franco, Written by Sylvester Stallone

     September 12, 2013

The first trailer for Jason Statham-starrer Homefront is now available and it clearly plays to the action man’s strengths, namely kicking ass, taking names and not saying all that much beyond the occasional one-liner.   Adapted by Sylvester Stallone from the Chuck Logan novel, Homefront centers on DEA agent Phil Broker (Statham) who moves his family to a quiet town that just happens to be Meth-Central, USA.  When his daughter runs afoul of a tweaker family’s kid, the meth’d-out mother (played by Kate Bosworth in a bit of a shocking turn) seeks retribution from the local drug lord, Gator (James Franco) and his gang.  While I don’t buy Franco as the threatening sort, I’d happily watch Statham punch through Gator’s army of thugs any day.

Be sure to check out the first images from Homefront here.  Also starring Winona Ryder, Rachelle Lafevre, Clancy Brown, Omar Benson Miller and Frank Grillo, Homefront opens November 27th.  Hit the jump to watch the trailer.

  • This Guy

This doesn’t appear to suck. I just hope they can make the final confrontation between Statham and Franco somewhat believable.

  • carl napolitano

    Gosh does Yahoo suck!

  • Norrtron

Looks pretty bad. British DEA agent? James Franco should stick to comedy, anytime he tries a serious role I just end of laughing anyways.

    • Nick

Yeah.. 127 hours was hilarious, that’s why he was so convincing. Jackass

      • Norrtron

He was great in that movie, I’ll give him that, but it wasn’t exactly a stretch for him to play a “bro”. I don’t think he’s good in any other roles.

      • Nick

What does that even mean? Because the character is an adventurer(bro by your standards?) it makes it easier to convince people that your hopeless, starving and spoiler… Cutting your damn arm off? So I guess if he plays a really sad role as a guy who is going through any number of horrible thing, and portrays it beautifully it won’t mean anything if the characters personality has any similarities to his own?

    • Pk

Haha they shouldhave got will Farrell to play gator!

Whatever critics say but its always fun to watch Statham kicking some ass, and he showed some acting skills in Hummingbird/Redemption.

    • RiddleThemThis

I’ve never needed Statham to prove his acting capabilities, as I have never doubted any of his characters. He does what he does and he does it well.

  • DNAsplitter

F Yea! The matchup we’ve all waited to see: Statham Vs. Franco. And Stallone wrote the screenplay to this gem? I smell Oscar bait.

    • Nick

I read this quickly and didn’t catch the sarcasm… I almost fell. Lol this does look fun though

  • Tom

Let me see if I understand this gem of a movie… 1. guy comes to town 2. doesn’t want trouble 3. finds trouble 4. guy kicks ass. Does that about sum it up? Thanks for your briliance, sly. You’re a gem. This movie whould be called Expendable Too.

    • Ruprect

I look forward to reading your screenplay.

    • Fienz

so how many oscars have you won?

  • Jonboy

Not sure bout the movie. Nice trailer though. I like how you think this is one of those trailers that show too much of the movie and then the kidnapping happens just in the end. I hope there’s more to it. But Franco doesn’t seem intimidating enough

  • Scurvy

Looks like the standard Jason Statham beat em up movie. I happen to be a fan of them. They make great rentals or streams on a rainy day.

  • Prasanna Rajan

Looks like a crappy version of ‘Breaking Bad’ in Hank’s view. Did everyone miss the yellow HAZMAT suit?

    • Nick

Yeah, because Franco has cancer and is related to statham.. Now that you mention it, breaking bad does have that backwoods “the whole town is in on it” vibe…. Please don’t make the mistake of assuming breaking bad invented meth. That’s just a stupid correlation

      • Norrtron

If you think that Breaking Bad hasn’t forever influenced the way Meth cooking is depicted in film and tv then you have no clue.

      • Nick

I’m pretty sure if you have any clue, it’s a board game in your closet. Even if meth in entertainment has become more popular because of the show, you can’t assume..certainly not by this trailer.. That the writers are trying to cash in on that as if breaking bad has created METH FANS. That’s ridiculous. And saying this looks like a crappy version of it is even more ridiculous. We should go back through every movie about a cop busting a drug operation and yell apt them for copying BB.. Even the ones that came out before BB, because why use logic?

  • LEM

As usual the trailer just saved me the price of a ticket.

  • Gator

Gator Needs His Gat You Punk-Ass Bitch!
