HORNS Trailer Startles With Surprising Humor; Strong Performance From Daniel Radcliffe

Wow.  For some reason I was kind of expecting Horns to not be any good or, at least, not be something I’d be into.  I’ve actually been carrying this perception around since the film started shooting some time ago.  But this trailer just changed my mind and I’m now looking forward to it in a major way.  I was totally underestimating this movie and certainly wasn’t expecting this kind of biting sense of humor.  Especially from director Alexandre Aja, a talented guy whose work I have yet to be able to connect with.  Now, thanks to this trailer from today’s presentation at the San Diego Comic-Con, I’m legitimately enthusiastic.

In this adaptation of the Joe Hill novel, Daniel Radcliffe stars as Ig Perrish, the main suspect in the rape and murder of his girlfriend (Juno Temple).  Hit the jump to check out the new Horns trailer and poster, and be sure to check out Steve’s video interviews with Radcliffe & Temple and Aja from TIFF.  The film also stars Max Minghella, James Remar, Joe Anderson, and Kelli GarnerHorns opens in theaters and on VOD this Halloween.

Is it just me or is Daniel Radcliffe turning into a major performer?  It’s funny, back in the first few Harry Potter films he of course had the look down but was probably the weakest link in the cast in terms of performance. But he steadily grew into that role even if he carried that mild mannered innocence into projects like The Woman in Black.  Now, it seems as if those shackles are gone.

Here’s the official synopsis for Horns:

Blamed for the death of his longtime girlfriend (Temple), a small-town guy (Radcliffe) awakens one morning to find a pair of horns growing from his head in this supernatural thriller from horror ace Alexandre Aja (Haute Tension, Piranha 3D).

Fuck yes! Cant wait for this.

Even as a child, in Harry Potter, Danial Radcliffe was an intense performer. Equal parts fun and equal parts tormented as being “the Boy who lived”.
As an adult he is just continuing what he has always done. However, it is being noticed now.

Nah, he’s definitively grown. I agree with Dickson in that at first he was the weakest of the three but towards the end he was the best.

Well I’m guessing this will probably get an r rating. If it does, anybody got advice on how to sneak in?

If you had read the book believe me when I say you would have been excited for it from the beginning!

That’s the problem. I don’t have anyone older to go with. Me and my friend plan to sneak in to Sin City in a few weeks and we’ve figured out how to get in. It’s the matter of getting out, that has stumped us.

Go see a movie there after “Horns” comes out so you can see which side has the theater it’s playing in and at which time. Then go back when you plan to see Horns, buy a ticket for the same movie you saw (assuming it’s around the same time as that showing), and sneak into Horns.

Just don’t got to AMC. FUCK AMC! Their converted theaters are 18+ for all movies and some you have to be 21.

      • Layman’s Terms

Yeah but how do i leave without getting caught?

      • appolox

Also, will I get banned from the theater if I get caught?

      • appolox

*also wouldn’t you get banned from the theater if if you get caught (whoops. Friggin keyboard).

      • Layman’s Terms

Idk. Maybe. Can someone please help me!

      • grimmbrother

Wow you guys are hilarious. Theatre employees don’t give that much of a crap about this stuff. Yes, they will stop you from sneaking in. But if you succeed, they will not care once the movie is over. And no, you will not get banned.

Seeing Radcliffe like this makes me want to see him be the lead in a Saga movie. Make it happen.

I’ve heard Radcliffe jump into an American accent just for fun sometimes in interviews over the years, and though it was a small sample size I thought it sounded pretty good, that he had a pretty good handle on it. But going from this footage, I’m not so sure anymore… There seems to be a lot of over-enunciation going on here (a common thing when foreigners try to sound American).

Mind you, I still think overall it looks very intriguing and I’m looking forward to it.

    This looks moronic…no thanks….

Radcliffe’s American accent threw me through a loop.

A fantastic book. It seems to have captured the humor element, I hope it can capture the bleeding, tragic heart of the novel. Such a bittersweet book.
