A24 has released the first Hot Summer Nights trailer for the upcoming coming-of-age film. Marking the directorial debut of writer/director Elijah Bynum, the film stars Oscar-nominated Call Me by Your Name star Timothée Chalamet as a shy out-of-towner spending the summer at Cape Cod who quickly gets in over his head flipping weed with the neighborhood rebel, while also striking up a romance with his new business partner’s sister, played by It Follows breakout Maika Monroe.

This is very much a coming-of-age story with a stylish aesthetic to boot, and it’s nice to see Brooklyn and The Place Beyond the Pines actor Emory Cohen on the screen here in an intriguing role. The film itself looks alright, but the fact that it debuted at SXSW in 2017 and has been held this long, and that A24 is releasing in concert with DirecTV—a move that doesn’t usually result in films up to the standard of A24’s solo releases—is a little cause for concern.

This film was actually shot before Chalamet made Call Me by Your Name and Lady Bird, both of which were huge breakout films for the young actor, which explains why he looks so different here.

Check out the Hot Summer Nights trailer below. The film also stars Alex Roe and Maia Mitchell and will be available exclusively on DirecTV on June 28th and released in theaters on July 27th.
