Exclusive Featurette Reveals How ‘Captain Marvel’ Was Made: From De-Aging to IMAX

     March 7, 2019

We at Collider have an exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette for Captain Marvel to bring your way today. The film is, of course, the latest from Marvel Studios and follows Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers, a former pilot who’s been living a life as a Kree warrior, but whose memory is cloudy when it comes to her origins. The story takes place in the 1990s and finds Samuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg reprising their roles as Nick Fury and Phil Coulson, respectively, before either tangled with that pesky God of Mischief Loki.

In this featurette, members of the film’s behind-the-scenes team talk about what it was like to bring this story to fruition. They include special makeup effects head Shane Mahan, costume designer Sanja Hays, and VFX supervisor Chris Townsend, and they discuss everything from the cutting-edge de-aging effects to 90s costuming and hair to how audiences can see up to 26% more of the frame in the IMAX sequences if they catch the film on IMAX screens.

Check out the featurette below followed by more information on the film’s IMAX release. Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8th.

If moviegoers want to feel like they are right there with Carol Danvers, Captain Marvel herself, throughout her intergalactic adventure, they must see it in IMAX because the presentation of “Captain Marvel” will be specially formatted for IMAX theatres which means key sequences will be presented with up to 26% more picture on the biggest screen (vs. the standard picture in standard theatres).

The IMAX release of “Captain Marvel” will also be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX’s customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.
