DreamWorks Animation has released the first official poster for the upcoming sequel How to Train Your Dragon 2.  The movie picks up five years after the first installment, and has Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) and Toothless exploring new territories while the rest of his friends are enjoying dragon races.  During one of Hiccup and Toothless’ journeys, they discover a secret ice cave, hundreds of new wild dragons, and the mysterious Dragon Rider.  Due to its high quantity of features, DreamWorks Animation is a bit of a hit and miss studio, but they hit big with 2010’s excellent How to Train Your Dragon.  It’s great to see the evolved character design of Hiccup in this first poster for the follow-up, and a proper theatrical trailer will probably be heading our way soon.

Miller, Djimon Hounsou, and Kristen Wiig.  How to Train Your Dragon 2 opens in 3D on June 13, 2014.

I wrote the first one off as a mediocre goofy cartoon, but after seeing the great reviews I came to regret not seeing the first one in theaters. I plan on not making the same mistake next year.

It is mediocre though, apart from the effects it’s a forgettable film.

      • starkemp28

ummm no. No where near forgettable.

In my opinion, I think its Dreamworks best animation film to date. It was absolutely amazing! I cant not wait for the sequel to this.

Better than Shrek, Shrek 2, Kung Fu Panda etc.? Keep dreaming. The story and characters were weak, it had good visuals and nothing else.

      • Johnson

Don’t argue. It’s your comments that are weak.

      • Aquartertoseven

Riiiiiight. I’m amazed at what these idiots see in HTTYD, it’s just the visuals it seems, they’re too dumb/young/blind to see through to the substance, or lack thereof.

Look at him, all grown up.

Darn, I was really hoping they’d go for a less jokey title this time around, like “The Dragon Trainer”.

I’m sure the movie will still kick ass regardless.

  • The Flobbit

The first film was an absolutely magical mix of action, heart, and fantasy, and this film looks to equal, if not rival – those previous heights. HUGELY psyched about the voicecast, including the incomparable Cate Blanchett and Djimon Hounsou.

This movie is looking incredibly hopeful…

the first one surprised me by how good it was. it is one of my favourite animated movies: hopefully this one matches and exceeds it

Looking forward to watch this sequel.
    Don’t disappoint us Dreamworks.
