DreamWorks Animation has released the first teaser trailer for How to Train Your Dragon 2.  The movie picks up five years after the first installment, and has Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) and Toothless exploring new territories while the rest of his friends are enjoying dragon races.  During one of Hiccup and Toothless’ journeys, they discover “a secret ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, and the two friends find themselves at the center of a battle to protect the peace.”  None of that plot is conveyed in this teaser trailer.  Instead, it throws us back to the joy of the flying sequences in the first movie, and then ups the ante.  We see a confident (and hot) Hiccup pulling daredevil stunts, and for a teaser trailer, it’s a perfect announcement that the sequel is on the way.  I can’t wait for this movie.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film also features the voices of Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, T.J. Miller, Kristen Wiig, Kit Harrington, and Gerard ButlerHow to Train Your Dragon 2 opens in 3D on June 20, 2014.

I like the big reveal of a “older’ Hiccup.

  • HeyZeusKreesto

Can’t wait. I loved the first one and still do. And looks like they did a good job with his older appearance.

  • DjangoBro

omg omg omggggg cannot wait! loved the hell out of the first one!

Looks like it got pulled already.

First movie is still the only movie I was ever GLAD I saw in 3d.

I agree with that. Unlike most 3D movies, Avatar not included, I was pleasantly surprised by the use of 3D in How to Train Your Dragon. It actually added to the movie, especially the flying sequences.

EDIT: Do you live in the US? It may be a regional thing because it works fine for me still and I’m in the US. You should be able to find a few different copies on youtube by now if it won’t work for you.

The fixed the link shortly after I posted that. The original link was not to youtube and that’s when I got the message. Maybe comingsoon tried to host it themselves. It was replaced by the youtube link though.

I can’t wait for this movie. I’ve seen bits and pieces of the cartoon show getting ready for work in the morning and even that looks pretty good.

The first was Pixar-level greatness… with more spectacle.

Pixar’s fine (until recently mind you…I haven’t enjoyed their films in a few years now), but they don’t ever take advantage of the 3-D like DreamWorks does. ‘Brave’ had the opportunity with those amazing visuals of animated Scotland but didn’t take it sadly.

totally agree with you, recent Pixar movies have been good but not great. I couldn’t even get myself to watch Cars 2. It was aimed too much towards little kids

Wow ! Just… wow ! And they did exactly what I hoped they would do : age the characters !

Hiccup’s new design is freaking me out, but I’m sure I’ll warm up to it.
I’m with most people in that the 3-D for this was one of the few movies I ever actually felt was worth the 3-D price (the other two being ‘Tintin’ and ‘The Hobbit’…I’m sure there are others but I don’t go to the movies that often). I’m very excited about this one, and I WILL pay the 3-D ticket price for the whole family. The first one was fantastic.

it looks like the trailer is in HFR

Why they are omitting series? They told it will serve as bridge between HTTYD1 and HTTYD2. :-/

    • MITIOR

I don’t think the series is that good to be included in the cannon

      • Peter Henkel

But it is in cannon; it’s direct sequel to HTTYD1 and events from series will be included in HTTYD2, such as Dragon Academy.

      • MITIOR

thy will have to include some sort of intro for the people who’s not familiar with the series ;/

      • Peter Henkel

I hope not. Intro is extremely intrusive and it would destroy movie atmosphere. No. They will make it to look subtle. In any case, series IS cannon and I highly recommend to watch both seasons. HTTYD2 will make much better sense.
