New Trailer for Martin Scorsese’s HUGO

     October 24, 2011

Paramount has released a new trailer for Martin Scorsese’s Hugo.  A work-in-progress cut played to audiences at the New York Film Festival to mostly positive reviews.  The latest trailer plays up the dramatic aspects of the story (unfortunately through Mr. Movie Voice) but it’s the visuals that take center stage.  Hugo is Scorsese’s first 3D film but it looks like he’s handled the new technology like an old pro.  This will be one of the rare times I’ll be upset if I don’t get to see a movie in 3D.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film stars Asa Butterfield, Chloe Grace Moretz, Sacha Baron Cohen, Ben Kingsley, Jude Law, Ray Winstone, Christopher Lee, Helen McCrory, Richard Griffiths, Frances de la Tour, Emily Mortimer, and Michael Stuhlbarg.  Hugo opens November 23rd.

Here’s the official synopsis for Hugo:

Throughout his extraordinary career, Academy Award-wining director Martin Scorsese has brought his unique vision and dazzling gifts to life in a series of unforgettable films. This holiday season the legendary storyteller invites you to join him on a thrilling journey to a magical world with his first-ever 3-D film, based on Brian Selznick’s award-winning, imaginative New York Times best-seller, “The Invention of Hugo Cabret.” HUGO is the astonishing adventure of a wily and resourceful boy whose quest to unlock a secret left to him by his father will transform Hugo and all those around him, and reveal a safe and loving place he can call home.

Now that’s a good trailer! The last one wasn’t the best. Im sold now. Isnt Johnny Depp supposed to have a part in this film? Where the hell is he?

will be a bomb in USA. the younger demographic wont like the heavy foreign accents. should have done it with American actors.

Oh jeeze… This “Breath and Life” song in trailers is getting overused and incredibly annoying.

And I’m disappointed in Mr. Scorsese, doing it in 3D.

Aside from those negative remarks, this movie does look good, and I’m sure I’ll be seeing it in theaters. Plus, it’s Martin effing Scorsese. And this is something quite different for him.. should be interesting.

I gotta agree with both AlexHeyNa & Matt Goldberg…its disappointing that Scorses’s working in 3D…but its unbelievably beautiful.

I think that alot of these old school AMAZING directors feel that the only way to continue to share their visions & stay relevant is to indeed work with & go with the current craze.

That being said…you do have those directors that REFUSE to work with the medium, be damned…but the vast majority of those guys are IN right now & can write their own tickets, like it or not.

I personally HATE 3-D unless its total animation. I have’nt seen a film yet that I liked in the 3-D other than Avatar…& live actors or not…that was an animation affair there.

I hate to say it…but this appears to be an entirely different deal altogether. I can’t wait.

    Great trailer.

I watch the trailer and I have no freaking idea what the movie was about. Beside the fabulous Chloe Moretz and Jude law I don’t know who everyone else is and just like James said this movie will not appeal the younger audience unless they are Chloe’s fan. This movie is kinda similar to The City of Ember style and it was a good movie IMO but it didn’t do will. Scorsese, beside The Departed I’m not familiar with his other film.
