If you’re one of those people who loved all of The Matrix movies (okay, or at least a couple of them), and especially Agent Smith, have we got some good news for you. Fans will be happy to hear that Australian actor Hugo Weaving has reprised his role of the mysterious agent.

Well, sort of.

Okay, so it’s not a new Matrix movie, but fans can still get to see Agent Smith again. Weaving is appearing in a new GE commercial for software and other medical equipment that is designed to make patient care better in hospitals.  Hit the jump to check out the commercial.

In the commercial, Weaving is back as Smith and up to all of his old tricks. Luckily though, this computer virus in a black suit is actually using his powers for good this time. We see Smith duplicating himself to demonstrate the various ways that GE is making innovations in the medical field and explaining how this will help patients who visit hospitals outfitted with the new equipment.

Watching the commercial, it’s kind of hard to believe that the last Matrix movie was filmed about 10 years ago. Weaving is spot-on in his rendition of Smith and it feels like we’re almost in one of the movies as we watch it. GE did a pretty good job with the special effects and even the coloring of the commercial is quite similar to that of the original films. There are plenty of references to The Matrix throughout the commercial, including Smith offering a little boy the choice between a red lollipop or blue lollipop at the end of his visit to the doctor.

Is that slow of a news day? What’s the news on the Arrested Development movie?

I liked it… But then again, I’m one of the few whom liked reloaded.

Is it a slow news day…. of course it’s a slow news day, it’s a friggin’ sunday! We can either have no news , or some fun fluff pieces.

Ha, I liked it. Red or Blue………:)

    ; ) Awesome !

Great stuff. Agent Smith is still bad ass, regardless of the sequels.

GE Exec: Hey, my kid just watched The Matrix last night, is that something younger folks like?
Intern: Uh, yeah, I guess. Like a decade ago?
Exec: Perfect! It’s retro! Let’s make a Matrix commercial.

HA, this is exactly what happened!

As much as I enjoy Hugo Weaving’s work, GE kind of missed the mark by putting THE VILLAIN in their commercial. Agent Smith has no redemption in the films, so seeing him back again just brings up feelings of unease, which is NOT the feeling I want from a hospital.

It´s kinda cool, agreed – doesn´t really strengthen my trust in medical machines, though. Creepy, anyone?

      Creepy indeed.

The end of the commercial was pretty funny, lol .

Great actor, great character. Please give us a new matrix trilogy. I would much rather that than the star wars movies.

No thanks, I rather have Starwars

As creepy as it is using a Smith to advertise GE Medical Equipment, it was a very clever ad, and I applaud them for going out on a limb and producing / broadcasting such an ad. I mean, who really cares about an ad for a medical MRI machine? A large and expensive medical device ad probably wouldn’t broadcast during the superbowl … it’s not like watching an ad for a 2013 Chevy Camaro …. but I saw it today on CNN while out at Chinese restaurant for lunch and it caught my attention across the restaurant while in conversation with others at my table.

So, a generally dull topic being advertised on TV, and they did it in such a way that there is buzz and excitement. Buzz, excitement and intrigue over an ad for an MRI machine, heart monitor, and defibrillator, who’d-a thunk it?

It couldn’t be any better if those machines transformed into Earth-saving robots defending us for Decepticons!

They need to follow up with Summer Glau now in a Terminator version.

Creepy, no. Clever, yes. It’s got a real undercurrent of humor to it, so veers far from creepy. And the bottom line is I watch the damn thing every time it’s shown. (Helps that they actually got Weaving to do it. Can’t really replicate [sorry] that kind of weird charisma with some other actor.) Love the last bit especially. I even rewound the DVR to watch it in full after seeing it the first time. This is *rare*. So — buzz win.

Hi. I only saw the first Matrix’ but I recongnized his character instantly. I liked the commercial, too. The paralle of the character and GE’s innovation technology did a good job in branding thier message. JR/Chicago
