As fans of The Hunger Games novels know, fashion plays a huge part in not only the plot, but also in the appearance of various citizens and contestants in the games. Fashion is a central and essential facet of everyday life for the citizens of District 1 and the folks at Lionsgate want to make sure your wardrobe is up to par. On “Capitol Couture,” a new blog released by The Capitol (ie Lionsgate marketing), news from both the real and fictional worlds of fashion merge. There are posts about shoes from designer Alexander McQueen next to advertisements for The Hunger Games-inspired nail polish by China Glaze. A central figure for this blog is Effie Trinket, played by Elizabeth Banks. Whether you’re a fashionista or not, you’re going to want to hit the jump to check out the look of The Hunger Games.
Check out all the images from Panem’s most fashionable citizenry below, including this animated GIF of Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss following Banks as Effie Trinkett. Also, take note of the humorous chart of Nail Cleanliness Per District:
Here’s the official synopsis for The Hunger Games:
Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains. Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love. THE HUNGER GAMES is directed by Gary Ross, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novel, the first in a trilogy published by Scholastic that has over 16 million copies in print in the United States alone, has developed a massive global following.
The Hunger Games by director Gary Ross stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth. It opens in theaters March 23rd. Check out all of our previous The Hunger Games coverage here.

I have a feeling this movie is going to flop sooo hard…John Carter is going to make more. Imagine that>? lmaoo
I work at a movie theater, and people from all demographics are excited and talking about this film. No way it flops.
It is highly anticipated so why it will flop, anyway if domestically, maybe but it will draw on a worldwide release….\hello…
I think Effie looks pretty good, but the rest seems like it is really toned down – at least for the Capitol. By that I mean that the rest just looks like something out of a fashion show from ‘our world’ which is certainly flamboyant… but not near as much as it should be from how the novel describes.
I disagree with Strong Enough though, I think that this will do just fine, I am certainly looking forward to it.
It’s actually pretty realistic. The fashion is a just a more flamboyant version of what the elite currently wear. (fashion designers, actors, supermodels, singers etcetera)
I think they nailed the look for the film just fine. If they’d gone all out as it’s described in the novels, it would have alienated casual viewers of the film and distracted them from the actual juice, which is the Games.
Nah I am soo excited…it might not make HP numbers but it will do decent for the fans…That’s what matters. I’d rather this be intimate for fans than a massive everywhere, mainstream thing. Go hunger games!
Too late! Lol. Hunger Games has become the latest cultural/world phenomena. Tickets are selling out everywhere and we still have over a week to go until the movie premieres!
