Yesterday, we reported the sad and shocking news that Philip Seymour Hoffman had died.  In addition to leaving behind friends, family, and an astounding body of work, Hoffman was also in the middle of multiple projects.  His half-hour comedy series Happyish had just been ordered to series by Showtime, and he was filming on The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.  According to sources close to the production, Hoffman had mostly completed his work as Plutarch Heavensbee on Mockingjay – Part 1, but still had seven days left to film on Mockingjay – Part 2.

We don’t know what scenes he had left to shoot, nor do we know the importance of those scenes to the picture.  In the book, Heavensbee is an important character, but he’s not a major one.  Whatever the case may be, the production has found a way to continue, and Mockingjay – Part 1 and Mockingjay – Part 2 will still meet their original release dates of November 21st and November 20, 2015, respectively.

As far as I heard, they’re going to keep Heavensbee’s dialogue, just replace him with another character in the scenes Hoffman hadn’t filmed, perhaps Natalie Dormer or an original character made up for this purpose.

I am of course, terribly sad that such a compelling, spellbinding actor has passed away, but I’m happy Lionsgate doesn’t have to go through a Walker debacle.

Yes, from what I remember of the books he is involved with the plot but not in a huge way or a way that couldn’t be substituted with another character. For the most part he pops in and out of the story, as long as they filmed the scenes immediately following Catching Fire they should have some flexibility in how they handle finishing both films. Probably depends to some degree if they were shooting close to chronologically or not, depending on what they have they’ll have to decide if his character just sort of drops out of the story (or they show him standing around at the end reusing footage) or if they have something happen to his character to explain his leaving the story (I doubt they’d kill off the character unless they absolutely had to).

As you said, terribly sad that he passed away. It’s a shame this discussion is even happening, but life goes on.

Sir Ridley Scott has dealt with such situation in Gladiator when Oliver Reed Passed away with three weeks of principal photography remaining, They did a wonderful job by making some smart moves on the script and filming new shots by adding his face digitally on top of his body double.

My father was a ” Junkie”. He died in 1976 of an overdose, he too made a living in Hollywood.
I received my degree for Substance Abuse Counseling in 1989…have made a living hoping to help other try and beat the murderous monster that is addiction.

No one is born a junkie, no one has to stay a junkie.
And when you give them a pass…it leads to death way to often.
The proof is in this story.

‘If I don’t stop I know I’m going to die’: How Philip Seymour Hoffman predicted his fate weeks before heroin overdose as NYPD reveal he withdrew $1,200 in 6 transactions on night before he died.
He needed professional help..what he got was people kissing his butt and telling him how great he was.
Had they treated him like a junkie, he would be alive now and his kids would still have a dad.
