When Jennifer Lawrence was cast as protagonist Katniss Everdeen in Gary Ross’ adaptation of The Hunger Games, there were seriously people who complained that Lawrence was a blonde while in the book Katniss is a brunette. These poor souls never heard of a hair dye so they’ll be pleased to know that this magical new invention has been used to turn Lawrence’s hair the proper color. The new issue of Entertainment Weekly features Lawrence in her full Katniss get-up complete with bow, arrow, and golden pin that’s featured on the cover of the book. Speaking of the book, I just downloaded it to my Kindle and plan to read it in the very near future. If I don’t like it, I’m blaming all of the fans.
Hit the jump to check out the full image of Lawrence as Katniss. The film also stars Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Wes Bentley, and Woody Harrelson. The Hunger Games opens March 23, 2012.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Hunger Games:
Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.
Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
THE HUNGER GAMES will be directed by Gary Ross, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. Collins’ best-selling novel, which has over 3 million copies in print in the United States alone, is the first in a trilogy of novels which have developed a global following.

Damn and I thought Jennifer was a gorgeous Blond! She is simply stunning as a brunette. Perfect casting.

Jennifer is a seriously great actor–like other chameleons Streep and Blanchett…
She’ll be on Letterman tomorrow night and Jimmy Fallon the next.
I hope she will play an action heroine one day or at least have one little fight in a movie. Just let her kick a guy in the groin or something.
Well, this movie sure as hell isn’t about prom and ice cream socials…
do oyu not see her with a damn bow and arrow and you know she is mystique in x men right?
Jennifer is lovely, gorgeous, sexy and beautiful. I love her. She’s a really sweet girl.
She looks great. Older than the 16 year old she’s supposed to be playing, but not as far off as I thought.
Alright, I admit it, that picture looks much better. I didn’t think they’d be able to change her look that much. That at least relieves some of the fear I have for the project. That being said, hopefully the films can actually improve on the second and third books. They didn’t feel as polished as the first.
Is it to late to book her to play a young Lara Croft? :p
^ My thoughts exactly!
my god she is ugly. that drawing of the girl is better and cutter.
You’re kidding right? Or are you just jealous? I know you’ve got to be kidding…
she is little bit rude,- read the teen vogue interview- but she looks ok
She looks fantastic and almost identical to how I imagined Katniss while reading the books. Enjoy reading them too Matt. At the very least they’re exciting/fast reads, so I doubt you’ll have too much to complain about if you don’t like them.
I know this isn’t really a huge issue. But to me, at least in this picture, she looks too polished and, well beautiful to be Katniss. At least in the first book for the most part she is weathered and not great looking. I’m sure this is more what she will look like when she has been dressed up for the Capitol; I guess I just hope they can depict her as the skinny, dirty, little girl that has to leave everything behind to save her world. I also think this picture almost perfectly depicts what she looks like when she becomes the face of the rebellion but that is not until later in the series. I still think I would have preferred Hailee Steinfeld, but it sounds like Lawrence has a lot of support.
First, Lawrence has already lost a ton of weight for the role. Look at the before and after shot of her face. Second, I’m pretty sure this is her look upon entering the arena. Braid, jacket, pin, cleaned up. Also, they comment that when she’s cleaned up, she’s stunning. Third. I too would have preferred Steinfeld.
Pretty dang close to how I imagined Katniss as well.
I’m almost finished with the third book ‘Mockingjay’ and it really is a great read…kinda sad I’ll have to move onto another book after this.
First book = Decent. Until you watch Battle Royale and realize how much Suzanne Collins ripped it off. Also Collins gives a little preview of how bad she is at battle tactics when she equips her hero with both the best range weapon and freakin’ night vision only to ignore the implications.
Second book = Poor. Collins tries a bit to flesh out the larger implications of her dystopian world, gets scared, and goes running back to the game arena formula of the first book.
Third book = Epic fail! Collins has no choice but to take her plot beyond the game arena and she’s completely out of her depth. We’re talking Battlefield Earth levels of incompetence, here. The bad guys simply forget half their technology (like stadium sized force fields), and the tactics used on both sides are laughably bad. More time is literally spent on fashion than on the war. The “plot” soon devolves into detached emotional moments spliced together randomly all wrapped up in a hugely unsatisfying ending.
I hope they make all these movies just to see how they plan to polish this turd.
holy crap. i would totally believe someone if they told me that was a character from a video game

That is some absolutely terrible photoshop work there.
She looks like Lady Hawkeye. Not a bad thing
Collin’s book is a damn rip off of Battle Royale, check it out for yourselves:

No it isn’t. The premise is similar but the actual plot progress is very different.
Batlte Royale isn’t that much of a unique premise as many people seem to think anyway.
