Hi-Res Versions of Previously-Released THE HUNGER GAMES Images

by     Posted 3 years, 138 days ago

Last week, Entertainment Weekly released the first images of Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth in The Hunger Games.  Lionsgate has now sent over hi-res versions of those images.  Looking at them again, I can’t help but wonder why Lionsgate chose these as their first images, especially the one of Hutcherson as Peeta.  Yes, the images will appeal to fans of the book, but reading the reactions to the images last week, there seemed to be a collective shrug and it’s not tough to see why.  If you don’t know these characters, then you just see Hutcherson holding a loaf of bread and Hemsworth chatting with Jennifer Lawrence.  I understand that Lionsgate doesn’t want to give anything away too early, but fans of the book are going to see this movie no matter what.  It’s everyone else that needs to be convinced.

Hit the jump to check out the hi-res images.  The Hunger Games opens March 23, 2012.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Hunger Games:

Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games.  Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.

Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy.  If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

The bread represents the Hunger I guess?

    • Mia11

Nope! It’s more known by fans/ people who’ve read the books. But the bread he’s holding has nothing to do with the games.

ALRIGHT!!! I’m extremely anxious to see this movie!

These images are perfect, and look exactly like the book describes. Great first images if you ask me – both these stills PERFECTLY illustrate the characters better than a description would. Only thing…. Katniss and Gale are too clean and polished.

Beh — Katniss and Gale look *too old* (because they are being portrayed by 20somethings, and they look like college kids). (Hunger Games features teens and younger — kids — fighting to the death, which is one element that made the original book so compelling.)

this is not going to appeal to a wide audience at all. The people who loved the books will love this movie and that’s pretty much it.

I guess we will all take your opinion since you’ve seen the movie.

Seriously though I don’t see how you could make that assumption from two images.

I am super nervous about the movie because the cast looks waayyy too old and polished. I mean c’mon really Katniss, who’s supposed to be 16, and Gale are supposed to be battling starvation and fighting everyday for themselves and family.

And, yet again, they got it backwards! These pics look like Peeta and his father’s bakery are in the slums, while Katniss and Gale are well-to-do kids straight out of an American Eagle ad! (not very convincing as 16/18 year olds, either!). In the book, District 12 is supposed to be poor, but the merchant families are a little bit higher on the economic food chain and better off. Whereas, Katniss and Gale are from the lower class mining section of the district. I’m so tired of seeing things reworked and out of place for this film! I really hope it gets better!

first off, most movies made from books have things different of off about them… these actors are all really great, I think we should all give them a chance to prove they can act the parts and not worry so much about appearance. If their acting is amazing then honestly, i don’t mind some changes. I can’t wait to see what the movie turns out like, the books are amazing! :)

I agree that Katniss looks TOO polished, but I definitely think the actress Jennifer Lawrence is PERFECT for the part… she looks like shes 16… Gale doesn’t look so neat and Peeta is PERFECT… if anything Gale doesnt look right to me, not like I pictured him at all… Dont forget that although they’re supposed to be like 16 in the books, they are very mature for their ages and have worked so hard to survive.. I’m excited this looks like its gonna be great…. Woody as Haymitch is perfect!
