Awesome Poster and Red-Band Trailer for I SAW THE DEVIL

     February 16, 2011

One of the films I wanted to see at Sundance this year was the Korean horror-revenge thriller I Saw the Devil.  Unfortunately, I couldn’t work it into my schedule and a new red-band trailer has only made that regret grow deeper.  The film looks brutal, but I love the visual style on display and I’ve only heard raves about the flick from those who have seen it (click here to read Bill’s review).

Hit the jump to check out the trailer along with an equally-impressive poster.  I Saw the Devil stars Byung-hun Lee (The Good, The Bad, The Weird) and Min-sik Choi (Oldboy). The film opens in theaters and video-on-demand on March 4th.

Here’s the official synopsis for I Saw the Devil:

I SAW THE DEVIL is a shockingly violent and stunningly accomplished tale of murder and revenge from Korean genre master KIM Jee-woon (The Good, The Bad, The Weird and A Tale of Two Sisters). Oldboy’s CHOI Min-sik plays Kyung-chul, a dangerous psychopath who kills for pleasure. The embodiment of pure evil, he has committed horrifying and senselessly cruel serial murders on defenseless victims, successfully eluding capture by the police.

On a freezing, snowy night, his latest victim is the beautiful Ju-yeon, daughter of a retired police chief and pregnant fiancée of elite special agent Dae-hoon (The Good, The Bad, The Weird’s LEE Byung-hyun). Obsessed with revenge, Dae-hoon decides to track down the murderer, even if doing so means becoming a monster himself. And when he finds Kyung-chul, turning him in to the authorities is the last thing on his mind.

The lines between good and evil fall away in this diabolically twisted game of cat and mouse. Pushing the concept of revenge to its most extreme limits, KIM Jee-woon brilliantly transcends the police procedural and serial killer genres in surprising and thrilling new ways.

This is Taken mixed with Se7en and is my favorite film of last year. It is brutal and amazing. Ji-woon Kim is quickly moving up the list of my favorite directors. This is not for everyone but it is thrilling, sad, and has very black comedy throughout. I cannot recommend it enough.

Definitely seems to have a “Man on Fire” vibe to it, which is one of my favorite movies. A person looses somebody close to them and goes on a rampage against anybody involved…i love a good revenge movie!

    Byung-hun Lee and Min-sik Choi.

They starred in two of the greatest revenge films I ever saw and gave some of the best performances in which good cinema is made of.

A Bittersweet Life and Oldboy, watch those films and remember their names.
