“Are you ready to plan your assault” with Idris Elba? The Beasts of No Nation star features in the new live-action commercial for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege video game. While we have to wait a little while longer to see the actor return to the small screen for that Luther TV special, his dark and brooding demeanor and blasting through walls will help tide us over.
This arena is “nothing without brains,” he says while soldiers open hellfire on each other in a crumbling, claustrophobic house. While Kevin Spacey (House of Cards), Michael B. Jordan (Creed), and Cara Delevigne (Suicide Squad) have their Call of Duty commercials, this one gives Elba more of a Dark Knight feel as he surveys a shadowed city wearing a wind-whipped jacket .
Watch the video below.
For Elba, this is one of a string of Rainbow Six promos. Another features his booming baritone voice talking about “barren fields” and “lonely wastelands,” while more still see the actor toying with chess pieces and monologuing in front of a “Lip Sync” poster of tweenie bopper sensations.
Video games aside, Elba will return as the tormented Luther for a one-night event on December 17th. The episode will see the character coming back from a leave of absence to track down a serial killer cannibal. Elba is also celebrating the success of his Netflix original movie — the first for the streaming service — and his potential Oscar consideration. Plus, he has a busy docket on the horizon with his upcoming roles in Star Trek Beyond, Finding Dory, and Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book. He seems ready to “Siege the Day.”
Here’s the official description of Rainbow Six Siege:
Rainbow Six Siege is a unique first-person shooter where infiltrating Attackers and fortifying Defenders clash with high intensity in all-new, exciting tactical combat scenarios. In the destructible playgrounds of Siege, anything is possible, but only those who prize brains over bullets will prevail in the high-stakes game of teamwork and strategy.
