Earlier today, Collider got the opportunity to chat with actor Idris Elba about his work in the highly anticipated sci-fi drama Prometheus, from director Ridley Scott, in which he plays the captain of the spaceship that’s headed on a mission to the darkest corners of the universe.
While we will run what he had to say about that film closer to its June 8th release, we did want to share what Elba had to say about Thor 2, which he plans to shoot after playing Nelson Mandela, and what he expects will be in store for his character Heimdall, the guardian of Asgard, who he’d love to learn more about. Check out what he has to say after the jump:
Collider: Will you be returning for Thor 2?
IDRIS ELBA: Yes, I am. I’m definitely going to do my man in a suit film.
What are you most excited about getting to do in the sequel?
ELBA: I’d just like to get to know him a bit more. Who is Heimdall? He guards the gate. Okay. Is there anything else? I don’t know what is in the script because I haven’t read it yet. But, the audience has responded to Asgard and wants to know more about who lives there and what it’s about. I’m sure, if they do that, Heimdall will be featured more.
With everything that you have lined up, how will that fit into your schedule?
ELBA: My schedule is so packed this year, to the point where I really don’t have an address anymore. I’m going to be living on film sets for the next year. I literally moved out of a place and was not going to get a new one. My schedule is really packed, but I’m going to do Thor after I play [Nelson] Mandela.

bbb… bu…but HE IS BLACK!!!!!
yea?? and??? he’s black AND awesome!!
I love this guy, he’s actually becoming one of my favorite rising big actors. And i loved him in Thor, so i do agree, i hope they do show a little bit more about his character
Actually, he’s BROWN. You might want to get your vision checked.
Actually he’s One Hundred Shades of Fine. Both black and Brown are included within the Shades of fine.
Yeah. And yer mudda’s got dark meat in ‘er thighs! lol
I heard a great quote, that: “If being white is what you’re most proud of, it says a lot about what you’ve accomplished in life!” (picture of a saluting neo-nazi … who probably lives in his mother’s basement =))
I am among many people who agree that Asgard was the real draw of THOR (all that Crocodile Dundee stuff was pretty -meh- but they had world bridging to do. Uh well)
Can’t wait to see Heimdall interact with my other favorite piece of elaborate metal Marvel head-gear: BALDER the BRAVE ! ! !
If you like Idris Elba then check out Luther. It’s a dark police drama on Netflix. I loved it.
Absolutely! I’ve been trying to hip people to that series for a while. Trust me, folks, you will be riveted.
I tried it before and couldn’t get into it. Maybe I’ll try it again.
Did you guys ask him about anything else? (i.e. his UK series Luther for example)?
I loved him as Heimdall and looking forward the sequel. I love Luther! I watch it on BBC America.
Everything that I have seen from this actor has been poised and great. He has chosen diverse roles and have intercated with different ethnic backgrounds. I my book he is sur-passing denzel Washington who is the black womens trophy ideal black man. Luther is a series on BBC America. It is a must see!!! It has drama, killing, it test the morals and judement of a police detective. This film is shoot in the UK and is the root home of the Lead actor. I applaud him for doing a film in his home country and showing more than what is otherwise glamourized for tourism purposes. You go Idris and good luck on your great career. Hopefully we will see more than a quick 2 to five minutes of Heimdall in the sequel…
