In addition to Empire’s behind-the-scenes image from Martin Scorsese’s “Shutter Island”, they have just become the place to get all the first images. Maybe it’s because they’re thebiggest film magazine left standing or they know dark secrets about the producers of many films, but they’ve just gone nuts in the past week with exclusives for “The Lovely Bones“, “The Hobbit“, and “Tintin“. And don’t give me that “They’re turning twenty!” bullshit. I didn’t get anything this cool when I turned twenty.

And today they have the first look at Mel Gibson’s return to acting and hopefully not-being-crazy (but not holding my breath for the latter) with Martin Campbell’s “Edge of Darkness”. Empire sells the plot thusly, “The film sees Gibson play a homicide cop who witnesses the death of his daughter (Bojana Novakovic) and set out to catch the killers, uncovering a larger conspiracy in the process.” In the image below you can see him stealing a corpse’s wallet. Or looking for clues. Whatever.

Also via Empire is a look at the character “Hit Girl” aka “Mindy” from Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming adaptation of Mark Millar’s comic “Kick-Ass”. If Timur Bekmambetov can turn Millar’s idiotic “Wanted” into an entertaining (if also idiotic) flick, then Vaughn should be able to come out with something pretty great even if it does spawn from Millar’s feeble brainbox.

But back to Hit Girl, she’s played by Chloe Moretz and the character is described as “Jodie Foster, Natalie Portman and Uma Thurman rolled into one.” So she’s Nell, Anne Boleyn, and Fantine rolled into one? That doesn’t sound very threatening at all.

Then Bloody Disgusting has two images from Rob Zombie’s upcoming sequel “Halloween 2” or “H2” depending on how the marketing guys want to go. I like “H2” better because I don’t have time for werds n’ shit. The images below show Michael Myers being tall and another image showing a hooded figure (presumably Myers) being taller than a child. I’m chilled to my core.

Finally, there are two new images from “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”. This, coupled with all the trailers and banners for a film that’s still three months away, will mean you’ll have already seen the movie before it comes out. Remember kids: it’s not piracy if it’s doled out piecemeal and via studio publicity.
