     May 5, 2011

With the film’s new trailer set to debut in front of Thor this weekend, Relativity has sent over a new image of a spear-wielding Henry Cavill in Tarsem Singh’s Immortals. Briefly, Immortals tells the story of a stonemason named Theseus (Cavill) who vows to stop the ruthless King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) from obtaining the long lost Bow of Epirus. In addition to Cavill and Rourke, Immortals also stars Isabel Lucas, John Hurt, Freida Pinto, Kellan Lutz, Luke Evans, and Stephen Dorff. The film hits theaters later this year on November 11th.

Here’s the synopsis for Immortals:

Visionary director Tarsem Singh (The Cell, The Fall) and producers Gianni Nunnari (300), Mark Canton (300) and Ryan Kavanaugh (The Fighter) unleash an epic tale of treachery, vengeance and destiny in Immortals, a stylish and spectacular 3-D adventure. As a power-mad king razes ancient Greece in search of a legendary weapon, a heroic young villager rises up against him in a thrilling quest as timeless as it is powerful. The brutal and bloodthirsty King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) and his murderous Heraklion army are rampaging across Greece in search of the long lost Bow of Epirus. With the invincible Bow, the king will be able to overthrow the Gods of Olympus and become the undisputed master of his world. With ruthless efficiency, Hyperion and his legions destroy everything in their wake, and it seems nothing will stop the evil king’s mission. As village after village is obliterated, a stonemason named Theseus (Henry Cavill) vows to avenge the death of his mother in one of Hyperion’s raids. When Theseus meets the Sybelline Oracle, Phaedra (Freida Pinto), her disturbing visions of the young man’s future convince her that he is the key to stopping the destruction. With her help, Theseus assembles a small band of followers and embraces his destiny in a final desperate battle for the future of humanity.

Wait a sec…is that Stephen Dorff in the background to the right? DAMN! They are totally wasting him, – this guy played on the best villains of all time in Blade I, – he should’ve been given a major villain role, not a cheesy side-kick!

Is it just me or does Henry Cavill not look threatening at all. No matter how many faces he pulls or rants he shouts out in the trailer I just wasn’t feeling it. He just doesn’t seem to have much of a powerful on-screen presence.

What’s that emblem on his chest plate supposed to be? It looks like a relief sculpture of his lower intestine.

All the production value and such on this film kinda look low. More like a cable network movie than a theater movie.

The emblem on his armor is a Ram you moron.

And 300 was for those into guys wearing black leather speedos!

        > The emblem on his armor is a Ram you moron

Hmmm… so the artists and costume makers and director and script writers all mistakenly believed it was intestines the whole time? Good fortune, then, that you came along.

        > 300 was for those into guys wearing black leather speedos
        > 300 had a vibe…. A GAY ONE

I defer to your obviously superior and deeply personal knowledge of exactly what it is that homosexuals consider to be sexy, and applaud your courage… being so flamboyantly Out & Proud, you are a fine role model for young queers everywhere.

Oh! I get it now, you subtle and mischievous wordsmith! You saw what is pretty obviously a colon and rectum, laid open like a flower on Henry Cavill’s belly, and the first word that popped into your head was ‘Ram’… you sly twink, you. I think Henry is straight, but you go right ahead and keep on imagining ‘ramming’ him; it’s a victimless crime, and besides, who knows how twisted and hateful you might become if you were to suppress your obvious flaming desire for sweaty manflesh.

This movie on whole looks like it waste a great myth for the sake of having the film look like 300.

    • Wladi

Totally…at least 300 got stunning visuals and powerful vibe…

      • Harry

        Yeah 300 had a vibe…. A GAY ONE!!! With a neo-conservative subtext to boot!

At least this looks promising. And Henry Cavill is an excellent classically trained actor.
