Extremely Bloody Fight Scene from Tarsem Singh’s IMMORTALS

     November 8, 2011

“If you anger the gods, prepare to have your ass handed to you.” That’s what Immortals director Tarsem Singh (The Cell) appears to be saying in this clip from the upcoming Greek epic. Definitely not approved by the MPAA for primetime promos, the 80-second fight scene features glowing golden gods rending creatures apart in spectacularly bloody fashion. I don’t recall the Greek gods having chain whips or kamas, but I’m not complaining.

Immortals follows Theseus (Henry Cavill) as he teams up with the Greek gods to take down the power-hungry King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke). The film also stars Freida Pinto, Luke Evans, Isabel Lucas, Joseph Morgan, Kellan Lutz, and Stephen Dorff. Immortals opens this Friday, November 11. Hit the jump to check out the clip.

Check out the gloriously gory clip below:

I’ve watched it like 5 times just for fun, but I’m not sure who all the gods are or who the creatures are supposed to be. They appear to have just been released by someone (Hyperion?) and they seem to be equal to the challenge. If you guys want to play “Spot the Gods” and let us know who’s who in the comments.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Visionary director Tarsem Singh (The Cell, The Fall) transports us in this epic tale of treachery, vengeance and destiny in Immortals, a stylish and visually spectacular 3D action adventure. As a power-hungry king razes ancient Greece in search of a legendary weapon, a heroic young villager rises up against him in a thrilling quest as timeless as it is powerful.

The brutal and bloodthirsty King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) and his murderous Heraklion army rampage across Greece in search of the long lost Bow of Epirus. With the invincible Bow, the king will be able to overthrow the Gods of Olympus and become the undisputed master of his world. With ruthless efficiency, Hyperion and his legions destroy everything in their wake, and it seems nothing will stop the evil king’s mission.

As village after village is obliterated, a stonemason named Theseus (Henry Cavill) vows to avenge his mother, who was killed in one of Hyperion’s brutal raids. When Theseus meets the Sybelline Oracle, Phaedra (Freida Pinto), her disturbing visions of the young man’s future convince her that he is the key to stopping the destruction. With her help, Theseus assembles a small band of followers and embraces his destiny in a final, desperate battle for the future of humanity. Immortals is produced by Gianni Nunnari (300), Mark Canton (300) and Ryan Kavanaugh (The Fighter).

Awwww hell nah…I know you di-int.

  • sense 11

    Wow, that was good

  • Grayden

Zeus wields the hammer, Athena is the woman with the kamas, Poseidon sports the trident. Not sure who has the sword, but it could be Ares, and the chain-tosser is a mystery.

I think they are fighting the “Titans” that are locked away in “Tartarus”.

    • brandon

If those are the Titans than that kind of sucks considering that at least two of them are supposed to be Zues’ parents. They must have changed the mythology around for this film. Hyperion is the name of a titan as well but I don;t believe Mickey Rourke is supposed to be a titan.

    • Gage

      the chain tosser is Zeus

  • watcher1991

wow. i cant believe how terrible these special effects are for such a big budget movie

  • brandon

Kind of makes me want to see it.

  • Reggie

That looked pretty cool to me will definitely check this out.

  • dogg

LOL, how many cans of gold spray paint did those costumes take? Or did they just raid a high school drama department? All the blood in the world can’t turn those straight.

  • tattew18

zeus has the hammer and chains, poseidon the trident, apollo the sword
athena the sickles and the other guy without a weapon i think is heracles

    • Gage

That looks fun, but God of War 3 looks better and you actually get to do the ass kicking yourself.

Man – gotta agree that those effects are pretty dreadful. It couldn’t have felt less organic. But still fun!

  • zootcatchy

it’s TITANS. weird that you still don’t know.

the Gods are Zeus, Athena and three others (Helios\Apollo\Heracles, Helios\Dareios?)

    • zootcatchy

ZEUS, ATHENA, POSEDION, APOLLO and the fifth is probably HERACLES.

The Titans were released by King Hyperion.

  • amitiel

Uh, if they’re all immortal (The titans were immortal in mythology, right?) how can any of them be killed in battle? What am I missing?

  • raranto

well they have immortal body which couldn’t be sick or ages (i like this film concept about the gods with younger appearance) but still could be killed.

  • Al

    Wow, this looks pretty campy.

  • leechenstein

    what a hack!

  • Amir

like the movie for wat it is, greek gods and mortals kicking ass

    btw.. FATALITY!!!

  • Sal

From this clip I realize that this movie is not really for me. I wish there was a PG13 version to watch. As much as I love Tarsem’s movies and the cast. It is far too violent for me… Do we know if a soft version will be released? You know even for bluray. Unlike most movies that get an Unrated Bluray release, is it possible?
    I wish…

The Olympians here are fighting the Titans, which were held in captivity beneath Tartarus. The bow of Epirus, which King Hyperion (mr baddy mickey rourke) shoots here is supposed to release the titans from their captivity to wreak havoc on the world. I believe these are lesser titans.

Also, gods throughout Greek myth are injured (Ares and Athena both recieve wounds from Diomedes, a mortal, in the Iliad). Cronus, the father of Zeus was also supposed to be immortal; but Zeus killed him and cut him up into pieces (then aphrodite spawns from the foam his blood makes in the ocean). So I’m assuming death is possible.

  • Gage

The on that starts in the back is Zeus. In the middle are Left:Ares and Right:Hercules or Apollo most likely Hercules. and then in the front are Left:Athena and Right: Posidian

  • Gage

Also too bad Helios died from saving Theseus who saves like the whole plantet. Helios is my fav :(

King Hyperion releases the Titans using the Epirus Bow. The gods are as follows Zeus starts out with Apollo’s Hammer and uses it to seal the bow away again then picks up the chain, Athena with dual blades, Poseidom with Trident, Heracles blonde god with sword, Ares dark haired god with sword, and as for the father of Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon is Cronus him and the most powerful of the original twelve titans were imprisoned in different locations around the world and not in the Pit of Tartarus with the others.
