Paramount Pictures and former Walden Media co-founder Cary Granat will attempt to literally bring audiences closer to God by creating In the Beginning, a 3D adaptation of the Book of Genesis.  Deadline reports that John Fusco (Hidalgo) has written a script to be directed by David Cunningham about the Judeo-Christian creation story.  The $30 million film hopes to attract the faith-n-family crowd that made The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe such a success.

In the Beginning will most likely eclipse Beowulf‘s record for “Most Time Spent in a 3D Movie Trying to Cover up a Protagonist’s junk.

It's not actually Walden Media, it's Cary Granat, formerly of Walden Media, and Paramount.

I'm not sure why you are using an image of Moses parting the Red Sea, which is from the Book of Exodus, not the Book of Genesis…

@The Geek Files.. that was my first reaction when I saw that. But credit be due… at leas they were close. From a christian perspective I like the idea. As long as it gets a decent budget and respect and a good script.

My fear is that it will be treat like the original “the bible…” film and be aimed purely at Christians and using direct Biblic quotes. That would be a bad, bad thing as it would alienate a lot of those who arent with the faith.

We need a film which anyone can pick up and watch and enjoy, regardless of their religious views, while still maintaing the main story andpoint.

I also hope they flesh out the characters too, even if it means using artistic license, because a lot of stuff isn't fleshed out in Gensis. Things like the motivation behind why Lucifer takes on the form of a snake to tempt Eve. We need to see the conflict between God and Lucifer and his distaste towards humans, otherwise the non-christians in the audience will be like “that made no sense!”.

It has to be done right, close to the scripture, but also in a way which a wide audience can enjoy it and make sense of it. I also hopethe special effects ROCK!!

But you also can not change Bible it is a non fiction book, and any change would make it a fiction, so there for christian or no christian you can not mix non fiction with fiction…same as true with not true…right…
So ppl who are not christian should just go along with the story .
I like you point of dealing with the relationship btw God and Lucifer , that would be interesting, but then there is that thing it was not explained in the Bible and there for we can not add stuff to it. The only time we would know any explanation on things in the Bible and that being one of them is when we face God , and ask him all this questions.
That is called a mystery and we as people are just to simple to know an explanation why some things happen .
